A friend got one on the first week and had it ordered from 2014 I think. He is Honda daft and doesn't really like anything else so his views on it are very biased.

Any review he reads he will discount any negatives and focus on the positives.

I am not a fan of the looks, especially the rear quarter panel. I have not seen a car make a 19" wheel look so tiny.

I also think its a bit over priced and this is probably why Ihave not seen another on the road.

From the passenger seat it does feel quick and the seats were nice. Gearshift also felt great when I had a feel. I also thought it was a good idea having the space under the rear seats open.

2: Massive oversight by Honda this, no third seatbelt in the back. I've got three kids and the Civic is one of the biggest, practical hatches out there (i've owned two!), so why restrict it to 2 child families? Daft.
Useful to know. And I agree, completely bonkers!
As for stop-start, WTF, I always thought starting a car was quite strenuous on the engine, doing it again and again can't be a good thing(?).
I had a Jaguar XF last weekend which had the same, it was ridiculous and yet another reason I'm struggling with new cars.

I don't have any kids so I never actually considered the rear seat belts - what a stupid idea!

Surely the stop start can be turned off?

Yes, I'm sure it can (presumably on both the Civic and the Jag).
I had the Jag for 4 days and couldn't be bothered to go into the touch screen (where I assume one disables it).
My point was just that I don't see how it is good for the car (possibly even from a fuel point of view) to constantly switch off and start again.

Saw my first one last night on the M25. In Black and looked the business to me. Whoever was driving was clearly enjoying themselves!

Agree with earlier comment - would definitely be looking for aftermarket LEDs to make the bull horn rear if i'd decided to buy one. Can believe the economy - for once it has a proper 6th gear great for cruising. Sales manager who test drove the car with me said he was getting 38mpg+ on his demo as he had a motorway commute in.

I'd love to see both this and the upcoming Focus RS in estate form. The estate Civic looks a lot nicer to my eye. I reckon they'd be worth while producing judging by the amount of Focus ST estates I see.

Didn't notice the speedo being obscured on the Civic, but it's one of my biggest bugbears on the 208 GTi. I guess it's what happens when you design the instrument panel for the regular seat height and then drop it...

I want to love it but it's not getting me. It's like all the individual parts are cool - wheels, spoiler, flared arches, ducts etc, but put them all together and it kinda doesn't work. The only thing I really like are the headlights. Plus the interior looks a bit too tacky and garish. No doubt it goes like doo-doo of a shovel and feels like a touring car round corners, but £32k-odd?

Not for me. At least not yet, maybe never if I just can't get on with it. Also it kinda reminds me of F1 cars in 2008 when they had all the little stick on areo pieces that looked horrible, rather than a fluid, streamlined shape.

Now an FD2 Civic Type R on the other hand...

If they ever built it, I'd be very interested. Not that they will.

I have seen quite a few about but really 4 doors in a sporty car I don't get it . Now the new RS as well so thats off my list of future purchases too. Ok these are world cars so we have to cater for some sort of market share profile to get the management on board but we end up with a mess that does not apeal to any body. The styling is kind of tacky in the Civic and Ford with the Focus RS Mk3 have gone too safe after the brilliant Mk2 which I have owned from new and already becoming classic. What we want Ford or Honda is a 2 door hatch that looks like its just driven off the Rally stage or race track how hard can that be ?

Devastated they ditched the 'devil horn' rear spoiler. But I do think the styling is on point, in your face flares and splitters have been due a come back.

There's one that I see quite regularly at the station, it's absolutely spotless and it's obvious the person who owns it loves it and takes good care of it.

I'd love to have a go in one but I'm not sure I could get over the extreme looks like others have said. Also can't help feeling that it won't age particularly well and will look a bit st in 5 or 6 years time after being subjected to everyday wear and tear and a bit tatty

Its to appeal to the masses I think. 4 doors is much better suited to the family buyer. I would never consider a two door with two kids.

I don't think the purchase price is too bad. I know a lot of folk keep saying about it being too expensive but my v40 d4 r design d4 was £34k+ new (I didn't buy it new) with decent spec so the Honda doesn't look bad. Keeping the finance deals expensive is also a plus as the car will sell in much lower volume and keep residuals strong (unlike the golf r32s which you see plenty of as they were giving them away on finance).

Looking forward to seeing more about this car in the long term report. Whilst the styling is to an acquired taste it definitely doesn't lack drama. The rear in particular!

Ive seen quite a few on the road, marmite looks to be honest , black suits it best , blue worst

The rear spoiler in my eyes is dreadful or am I being old at (42)

Loads moaned about the fn2 when it came out , looks of them grew on me, guess it's why we've had one in the stable since new , but this no thanks in a polite way of course.

It may be an excellent drive but I just couldn't live with the looks of it to ever consider owning one; it is the car equivalent of a lava lamp to me, tacky!

This will be anathema to the Type R fans... but I seriously wonder how many more Honda might sell if the spoiler and red trim were no-cost delete options, and you could trim the interior in black instead of red.

That said, I'm glad the fans have the option of a lairy looking car. The world would be a poorer place if everyone had resale grey VAG hatches.

Take the M135i as an example. Your can have a Valencia Orange one or trim the interior in red if you want, but you don't have to. Likewise, if you think you want vibrant colour in your life then you can have the Leon Cupra with orange wheels, but if you want to blend into the background, then you can.

The hardware that the Civic Type R has needs no apology. If you want to enjoy it but not flaunt it, why not have the option to do so? (I don't buy the utility of the aerodynamic addenda unless you're doing some serious track work. Evo's examination of the aero could be most kindly described as highly sceptical of the aero's effectiveness.)

Which means that you're left with very few non-VAG options if you wish to go fast but discretely.

If I win the lottery tonight (yeah, right!) then among my toys will be a CTR with all the above corrected.

Same as some of you guys. Owned two EP3, and FN2 GT and an S2000 so I really wanted to like the new type R. I just can't see me owning one from the looks alone.
