TBH the steering wheel is the only part of the cars looks that I don't like, the rest is pretty cool to my mind, it's a bit brash and OTT but that suits me fine
I've sat in a red one and driven a blue one - I'm not 100% sure which I'd go for it I took the plunge though. My Clio (current motor) is blue so that may sway me to the red, just for a change. But it'd be a snap decision either way.
It doesn't look good in white at all IMO, unlike it's predecessors.

I've seen a few on the roads round here. They are a bit beastly in the flesh, but ugly in the same way as a lairy Subaru. FN2 is much better looking and is the best looking one they did. I'm sure its very fast, but to me it just seems to be much the same as most other Turbo 4-pots, doesn't this only rev to about 7K as well? It might be fast as hell, but that's really not everything is it?
You're 100% right, it isn't everything, the previous VTEC unit was a superb little engine, properly great to hustle, this is just another turbo four pot now, sadly.
The noise is a bit disappointing at the top of the rev range too, but TDI North are already looking at sorting that out with a new exhaust system, that'd 100% be on the "to do" list if I bought one! The gearbox is excellent for what it's worth, the change is brilliant - short and precise.

Fast forward 2-3 years. Prices will be below £20k, everyone will have adjusted to the looks. Lower it (would make a huge difference to the profile and the lost-in-the-arches wheels), exhaust and simple remap to 350+, perhaps tweak the induction, and suddenly you'd have a very, very desirable hot hatch. That's when I'd buy one.
