RE: CarPlay: OE versus aftermarket

Seems to be OK, I know when I was looking at V70s a lot of the issue was the gateway under the seat rather than the head unit itself, like the sound was sent to that first and then to the speakers.
The only thing stopping me buying an older S60 or v70 is the potential to upgrade the stereo - they have a reputation for having a great stereo as standard, but even though my E92 was pretty big job to DIY, I'm not sure I can be bothered tackling another one - TBH I probably need to do further research to see how easy a headunit swap is.Megaflow said:

This is PH slipping to a new low. Dan would you genuinely and honestly recommend a friend go to their local Kwik Fit to let the apes there pull their car interior apart to fit a stereo? I'm sure your carefully set up experience organized by the marketing team was very smooth, but can you put your hand on your heart and say that it is in any way indicative of what your readers could expect?
The site will be regurgitating manufacturer and corporate press releases verbatim at this rate. Oh, no, wait a sec....
Indeed. The appauling lack of control of advertising in the forum's is bad enough. Now we have got editorial advertising as well. The site will be regurgitating manufacturer and corporate press releases verbatim at this rate. Oh, no, wait a sec....
At least when they do such a think in a magazine they put "Advertising Feature" in the corners of the page. PH thought it's readers were stupid enough to not notice this was advertising.
As for taking a car to Halfords to fit anything...
I wouldn't trust the average Halfords employee to fill a car up or change his/her own pants!
Halfords are great for the majority of people. person A wants to connect ipod to car that can't do it standard. goes to halfords on a saturday, boom it's done. Sure they could go to a specialist but most people are fairly intimidated by, or just plain unaware of them and just want a simple thing doing quickly and easily.
Plus they had flare nut spanners in the sizes i needed when i couldn't find any anywhere else. So that was good for me too.

I like that you've used the top storage cubby for the nav screen (did you buy a new hood for that?) - a more modern look, what's going in to the 'traditional' Double size entertainment area below the vents? The prev owner of my Forester put a Kenwood Nav / DAB unit in there so it's a bit old skool but works well! Nice work!
That's how it came - thanks to my man in Japan whoever he was for doing that when he did the original ICE install. I was initially thinking of restoring it to the slot in the dash and getting a replacement lid for the dashtop cubby but reckoned touchscreen and nav is better higher up and in your eyeline. And the lower storage is perfect for the USB leads and phone storage. Edited by philkermeen on Wednesday 13th January 16:00

Hello MR. Dan, this is good article that gave me pleasure. In Japan the re-selling of cars is very frowned upon and seen suspiciously, due to Japans strict inspection rules that which make such vehicles worth almost nothing after six years, even beautiful classics soon become restricted to garage for hobbyists like myself , add strict environmental-protection regulations that make vehicle disposal very expensive in Japan. I think add having an out of date iPhone charger and it is a no sale here!
Sometimes I wonder if you are Japanese, some of the things I read are not based in the reality I've lived over the last 25 years (my car is 12 years old and I've never had to pay any of the extra charges I've heard expounded by some on here).Edited by Jayinjapan on Sunday 17th January 05:12

Then you must be living in a cave because the Japan I know does not do re selling very well so I have to wonder what part of Japan you are from? Not the part I live in! But perhaps I should say Happyjapinjapan to be more convincing? Mr troll!Edited by Jayinjapan on Sunday 17th January 05:12

My bluetooth widget has just died so, if wiggling the plugs doesn't work I'll be ripping out the OEM CD player (also broken) and installing a Double din DAB/CD.Cheers,
Dan
I'll hopefully retain the factory fit satnav in the top cubby, it really is good having it so high up in your sight line.
If I had another £500 to play with I'd bin the lot and do what Dan did.
On the subject of the redundant hole, the STIs had the option of a bottle chiller, perfect for a can of pop & a ginsters pasty: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f77/water-...
For £500 you'll easily get a double din with Nav & DAB.
