The lorry didn't "ram" the Merc down the motorway, he made an immediate controlled stop over to the hard shoulder to stop the Merc from being pushed back into oncoming traffic. The drivers initial move was careless, but once contact had been made he did a good job of slowing them both down safely.

I disagree this is 'a good job slowing'. The swerve left after contact is sudden and panicked. The car is stuck to the front of the lorry because of physics not good driving.

Thinking maybe the truck is left hand drive, with a big blind spot on the right hand side, cant imagine a right hand drive wouldnt notice that car there, then again. Cant but notice the truck is slowly catching up with the van in front, in this situation I always try to move over, or slow down go give him room to pull out. Had this yesterday on the M1, realised I wasn't stopping in time so eased off the brakes a bit and went for the gap between the car and the armco, luckily it worked out as I avoided the car and the armco and the car behind me ended up 3ft from the Vectra's bumper. Could have been a messy sandwich especially as there had also been a Kia between the Vectra and Skoda that swerved into the middle lane at the last second.

All caused I assume by someone having a nosey at the other side. Watching it back I shouldn't have eased off after the initial hard braking but the car behind had got very close and I didn't think it was actually coming to a dead stop. I believe the white Astra estate in the middle lane had been 2 behind in the outside lane which shows how quickly it was going before it all came to a stop.

I think you did well under the circumstances, but with respect, I'd suggest that that was all caused by everyone involved driving far too close to the car in front.
