Banned for 14 days and a fine well less than the cost of insurance.

I reckon someone doing 120mph in perfect conditions and not crashing would have got far more. rolleyes

Peugeot was no doubt turning right at the next junction/roundabout, about 15 mile up the road...

I don't blame her though. The van driver seems to be following far too close for the entire duration of the video.

Also, the way her voice sounded implied she was upset and stressed about things, and that the tailgating van probably pushed her over the edge.

Suffice to say, I've been in the same scenario as the lady, long and stressful day which left me in a bad mood. The tailgater that followed me home about .5 of a second all the way home. 99% of the time I usually just pull over and let them go annoy someone else.

Also, van driver knew what he was doing, he was deliberately winding her up.

I laughed at that, but your probably right. We see it all the time on the A90, dual carriageway NSL, you approach a car in in L2 who is doing about 60'ish, thinking they will see you soon and move over.

But no, they continue along at 60ish, then start braking, you think WTF, then the right indicator comes on

but I can imagine the Yaris having almost exactly the same accident if there had been a parked car on his side of the road opposite the house, rather than an overtaking BMW.
Overtaking a stationary vehicle is very different to overtaking a moving vehicle; if it's not moving you're going past a 4m-ish long obstacle. If that 4m long vehicle is moving at 50mph and you take 2s to get past, you've effectively passed a 48.5m-long obstacle. That doesn't include any vehicle separation before or after the manoeuvre, so the overtaker could be on the other side of the road for more like 60-80m. There is a massive difference in leeway between moving and stationary.

That took place here: https://goo.gl/maps/3q4Ln2AuaPS2

And yes there is a roundabout some distance up the road. Peugeot had no need to be out there.

That corner has always felt somewhat slippery to me, especially in the wet, there are some funny angles/cambers and its sharper than it first appears. Not a problem if you're doing the 40mph limit though.

Pretty sure he won't be doing it again !

Jesus christ, granted lorries passing each other is frustrating sometimes, but even if his move had worked out he'd have saved, what ? 20 seconds on his journey ? Impatience on our roads seems to be leading to ever increasing fkwittery.

I wasn't clear. Replace the BMW with a parked car on the left, and but keep the oncoming vehicle that's being overtaken. Still a load easier to deal with - unless you panic and lose control...

There's still much more leeway if a vehicle isn't moving - as above, at 50mph a car is covering 22m every second, so in an approximate reaction time of 1.5s it's 36m closer to you than it was before whereas the stationary vehicle is still where it was - you have 36m extra to deal with the issue.

ETA: there is also the psychological effect of not having a distance diminishing faster than expected (which gave rise to the panic initially) - you are better able to remain calm and deal with the hazard.

I like how he disables comments and mutes the video when she reads out the company on his van. Clearly knows he's not innocent there
