When cyclists take the attitude of proving themselves to be in the right even if it results in a collision it's even more dangerous for them.
This is very true for a percentage of cyclists and it's a very easy mindset to get into when you start cycling,
I've been driving into London for work (mainly weekends & nights) for the past 16 years and cycling for about 4, sometimes people cut you up whether you're in a car or on a bike, it happens and you just have to get over it but it does seem a lot more personal when you're on a bike.

Also, London rules are subtly different, if people 'ask' to change lanes they expect to be let in, there's a lot less lane 'ownership' in my experience, cyclists have to adapt and fit in.

In the clip in question if I was in my car I would've anticipated the Merc's move (hopefully) and just slowed up, if I was in my bike I would've just rode around it, but then I don't have a dashcam strapped to my gourd.

He's a self styled "vigilante" who is out on his bike being filmed by a Channel 4 reporter, in a report about how dangerous it is for cyclists. He's looking for trouble, and finds it very easily by placing himself in danger. He's seen the car turning right, and has accelerated into a position where, if the car does move across, he'll be there ready and waiting with the camera rolling to capture it. Just my opinion.
What's more amusing is that the reporter who's filming is paying attention and riding sensibly. Vigilante-man has had to get out of the saddle and overtake him in order to be able to show some righteous indignation.

Sorry not a car cam, but a cyclist. And what a wker !

At 0:55 he approaches a very slow car merging from the right at speed then complains that they 'cut him up'

What an absolute dhead, riding like that is going to get him hurt.

Grrrrr.

To me it looks as though he's courting controversy for effect and the programme...

In this first still he can clearly see the car starting it's manoeuvre - what he's not also considering is the volume of pedestrians any of whom could step out...

I guess he was aiming to go either side of the people carrier, both of which gaps are quite narrow ...

In this one he is almost central in the left hand lane... he has plenty of room to have continued up the inside of the car... but it doesn't make dramatic viewing...

PS - what the hell is a "Self styled vigillante" ? More like a bloody drama queen....

Err, I think you'll find that's two entirely separate clips edited together. hehe Or where do you think the camera man disappears to?

Even if it wasn't edited, you can see that he's matching the other guy's speed (who is also out of the saddle), not overtaking.

No, the clip from reporters headcam from 0:53 onwards: Maybe not "overtake", if they were two abreast, but reporter has read the situation and is backed off leaving space for car and pedestrians. The other cyclist just scorches into frame past him.

Here's a clip from a cyclist's headcam of one of the most dangerous manoeuvres by a car user that I have ever seen, no surprise it was a female driver. I'm amazed that there were no fatalities considering the severity of it...

I think they were offended by your coming up behind them at a big differential and getting within, what, 15 feet?

Neither of you covered in glory.

Probably offended that you've interrupted their aimless poodling along. Brake testers should get an instant 30 day ban if caught. Utterly abhorrent.

Nice to see the cyclist see the funny side and laugh at himself.

What is the point of people steaming up behind a car that is blatantly going slow and get really close, why not hold back and go for an overtake with a lot more visibility of the road ahead?

What is achieved by going right up there arse, do you expect them to move out the way, it is a mentality I never understand, but usually seen by 'youths' and inexperienced drivers who don't plan ahead.

I was thinking about getting a cam, but I see stuff daily and it is part of life, I just don't want to be one of those people who film mundane events and post them up.

Because it demonstrates how all powerful, road conquering and awesome they are and that idiots shouldn't dare do the speed limit in front of them when they're dominating the road and "making progress".

Probably.
