Not one of the slow-witted dumbos tries cadence braking. Nice to watch though, a proper icy slope.

Cadence braking wouldnt do squat in those conditions the wheels simply wont turn, Canadians have far more expertise in those conditions that we do

I would have expected Canadians to use winter tyres and for winter tyres to cope with those conditions. But then, I have never experienced a Canadian winter! So what do I know! smile

They would but you need spiked tyres to deal with ice, once you get more snow down its fine with normal winter tyres

I spent a year working in Labrador, I was very impressed with how the Canadians dealt with poor roads , took my brain a while to adjust

Maybe not, but the only guy (in the white and green taxi or whatever) manages to avoid hitting the stuff at the bottom of the hill allows the wheels to keep turning. Everyone else is sliding with them locked up.

Labrador. You have my sympathies.

The smart Canadians stay at home on the first day of a snowfall and allow snow removal and de-icing (sand and salt) equipment to do it's work.
The Swedes I know say they do the same.
Montreal will have plenty of equipment working 24x7, especially in the city centre.

Anyone involved in that, who did not have snow tires or studs will be receiving a fine.

The one that astonished me, was the cop just drifting backwards with the brakes locked on all the way.
Once he was going backwards, he should have taken off the brake and given it throttle in drive.
They will all be automatic gear boxes. Not guaranteed to stop you, but it's always worked for me when driving a rear wheel drive going down a hill.

To be fair though, I have seen a FWD (without locking differentials) drift backwards down a hill for lack of traction.

Looks like 'dry' show over black ice. It doesn't get much worse than that really.
The snow compacts between the tire and the ice and creates four little ice sledges for you to ride on.

I've use the regional spelling for 'tyre' quite intentionally

Dashcam man tries exactly the same thing several times in a row, gets unsurprisingly similar result every single time. Presumably yet to consider self criticism..
Just puts himself in the same position everytime. Doesn't hold back in case the vehicle goes around - muppet. Typical DCW

Why do people in company vans, complete with name and phone number, drive like cock sockets?

Well held for the Jimmyriddle thing, could have been much worse! Obviously driving too fast however.

I think there's another thread for gear discussion. Mini 080x are popular, looks to be what BigbadVXR uses based on the overlay text.

Mini 0805 is on flash sale at Gearbest, £46.

Apologies.
I should have updated my information/knowledge before making the statement.

A bit lax really IMO, given the average date of first snow fall, and severity of winters in that part of Canada.

A 'funny' story.
Some years ago, the city of Victoria sold all/most of it's snow removal equipment as they hadn't seen snow in (trusting to memory) around 15 years.
That winter it snowed about 4 inches in one night.
It cost (again trusting to memory) more to hire snow removal equipment, than had been raised by the sale of equipment. Of course the economics aren't as simple as that, but try telling that to a population of a house bound city where barely a single set of snow tires had been sold in over a decade.
Apparently, none could be purchased either, as not stocked.
Absolute carnage on the roads.
