I guess the Ecoboost is an option for those desperate to have a mustang that couldn't afford the V8. Buying one certainly won't help them save to get the V8 though that's for sure.

Personally I just can't think of an Ecoboost Mustang as a Mustang, sorry.
By the time a few tweaks have been made under the bonnet, an after market exhaust and a few trim pieces... I would bet the general car enthusiast will not be able to spot the difference between an ECB and a V8.
The owner will have their fuel economy Mustang, whilst only suffering a little in the power and willy waving contest.

Someone whom can't tell the difference between a turbo 4 (which would sound even worse with a performance exhaust) and a V8 would not be a proper car enthusiast in my book. They're an absolute world away from each other in terms of sound and feel despite the sound symposer in the Ecoboost.

The bigger power of the V8 almost puts me off in a way, as I like to savour acceleration which is over in an instant in something of that territory. It's purely the noise that makes it such a special car, turbo 4's are everywhere these days in the UK and therefore not that special no matter what clothes it's wearing. I'd rather have an M235i than an A45 for this very reason.

A mate of mine living in LA says that the Mustang is seen as a bit of chavmobile over there. Bit like XR3s and 2s back in the day.

Of course there are small engined ones, V8s and heavily modded.

I think the latest one will be considered differently in the UK as it really does handle and I am having great fun in mine, plus it and the older models are so rare.

Mind you the only people gawping and pointing at mine are toddlers. Must be living in London where Fezzers, Bentley and other exotica are ten a penny biggrin

Of course they're a bit chavvy but they'll always have far more class and style than a ubiquitous German diesel wagon. They'll just be pure fun and character. Everything they can never be.

I think one hindrance for the Ecoboost is that most young 'uns would rather finance themselves in a weedy BMW or Mercedes diesel because - as long as it's white - they think they'll look one of their rich celebrity idols.

I think it's a shame, because i believe it's good there is a more affordable option for a younger guy. It may not be a V8, but given the reviews of the new Ford Focus RS suggest the engine/exhaust has character, i'm sure you could achieve the same with a few mods on the Mustang.

Personally, when i was 18/19 i was more than happy with a lower powered car; half the fun was looking for cars i could get insurance for that i could then spend every last penny on modifying.

C'mon now Big G, stop trying to make yourself feel better that you bought the wrong one! wink

There's no way you're getting a genuine 25 out of an Ecoboost round town.

Average of 22 mile a day does, I spend most of my travelling time sitting in the A1 car park approaching team valley in Gateshead (horrendous 2 year roadwork scheme ongoing)

Seen one last Saturday in Antrim (N.I) in red (AGZ plates) while out on the bike. Looked really well and stood out.

I finally got to drive a V8 car yesterday, after having driven an EcoBoost back in November.

They are like chalk and cheese - not saying the EB is a bad car, because its not, but the gulf in the 'feeling' of the car is huge (even if the performance figures arent so much).

I ordered a V8.
Ooof I'm rather jealous!! Enjoy and let us know how you get on. Unless it's as fantastic as it seems of course :P

Spotted one on the A96 a couple days ago, heading towards Aberdeen in the afternoon. Was a fairly flat red, not my cup of tea but otherwise looked fantastic, had great presence.

Saw one on the same road a few weeks back, but it was on a transporter.

I was making a lighthearted nod towards the sort of lines that usually get trotted out about American cars - I myself own one

Thought so, must be something to do with the name biggrin

I had a Mercury Grand Marquee last year. The odd Brit review claimed it was impossible to stay within it's own lane. Some said that I'd need all 3 lanes on the motorway.

It was fast and comfortable, though far thirstier than the GT, and although huge it was as happy to thread through the traffic in central London as was my 3 series e36.

Yes that one always makes me laugh. 'Too big for British roads'... I wonder how van drivers cope then?
