Adele isn't talented. Her songs are lyrically and musically inane and her voice is nothing special - the records are autotuned to hell. She sells because she has the corporate might of the BRIT School, BRIT Awards and a major record label behind her. As Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer rightly observes, "If you went to the BRIT School, you don't count!".

On the other hand, the Range Rover SVR seems to be a very capable all-rounder - family estate, a bit of a driftmobile, off-roader, grand tourer, bloody quick in a straight line and makes one of the better automotive noises of recent years.
laugh Never in my born days did I think I'd be involved in a PH thread taking a stand for the merits of both Adele and SUVs! But I guess I started it didn't I.

For the avoidance of doubt I'm a bigger fan of the SVR than I am of Adele though.

Carry on...

Dan

Another very happy SVR owner here. I'm coming up to the end of the first year and it never fails to put a smile on my face.

Where the performance really counts in the real world is in A road overtaking. The ability to get past that artic and gaggle of timidly driven hatchbacks behind it in a single, smooth, overtake. Just make sure they've seen you, though they will undoubtedly have heard you.

Nothing has gone wrong, even the fuel consumption is fine, 21mpg normally, 14.5 on a "good" day. Oh, and earlier this month, I was in mud up to the wheel centres. No problem. Just try that in my 991 GT3.

I'm married to a professional musician - pianist, organist, choir trainer, teacher. I've sung in several of her choirs. I know something of what is involved in good voice production - hitting a note bang on and holding it without warbling all over the place. I also have a reasonable knowledge of music of all periods. I loved ABBA. Modern major-label pop, Adele included, really is atrocious.

...and yeah, my 520i's M54B22 straight six does make a more musical noise than she does! The 535i's M62B35 V8 is more Motörhead - gratuitous clattering noise...

Yet you can't grasp such simple concepts as subjectivity, particularly in art.

There is a difference between subjective taste and objective fact. The latter is that most modern pop musicians, Adele included, can't actually hold a note to save their lives, and the musical content of the songs is utterly inane, almost devoid of thematic material.

But, I thought this thread was about the Range Rover Sport SVR. I am sure our fellow PHers would be grateful if the thread could be refocused upon that subject.

There are millions of people throughout the world who disagree with you and disagree so vehemently that they are prepared to spend their own money on something they find pleasurable. But they aren't married to a music teacher so I guess their opinion is wrong.

with a £1500 engine cover I would be nervous about taking it to a garage.
It's something you soon get used to when you own a RangeRover.
Yep. It happens once a year, every year for me. Bad times. frown
Same here, and my service involves a ferry trip too! Thank god its reliable for the rest of the year.

That'll be a hell of a car when it's £30-35K - in about 4 years time then wink

I wouldn't call the SVR mutton dressed as lamb. My neighbour's first-gen RRS 2.7 TDV6, on the other hand... a slow, agricultural diesel Discovery dressed up as a 'sporty' Range Rover...

Hmm, whats next Dan ? watching Bridget Jones diary when there isn't a female in the room, getting a Cat, preparing and eating Salad, drinking Lambrini and finding Sarah Millican rattling on about her fanny amusing ?

Sorry, but listening to Adele and liking it means you are turning into a female, next you wont find farts hilarious and start being terrified of Spiders.

Dr J4CKO prescribes the following, go and cover yourself in diesel and old engine oil, eat some red meat, get wkered on strong Lager whilst listening to Motorhead at full volume, perhaps kill a Pitbull with your bare hands, careful not to break a nail wink

From what i've seen from the video road tests the Cayenne Turbo is a much better car. So for me I'd go for the Cayenne. As much as I don't mind how the RR looks, I cant get excited and wouldn't buy a car because of 'how good it sounds'.
Unless the Cayenne came with Adele only playing through the sound system. That would ruin me. SVR would take its place.

Our old Ford Galaxy had the Adele only audio option, every time I got in it she had left it playing, she has the new one in her Fiesta now.

The other music option was a seemingly endless supply of complication CD's that had Titanium by Dave Guetta, paradise by Coldplay and something about Mama doing a hump or something, she buys the same 30 or so songs in different orders, and Adele, lots of Adele.

Nor would you buy a Cayenne for how it looks.
