8 litre twin turbo and 6 wheels! Only 2 were ever made, and I'm not sure if there was ever one sold?

I have fond memories of sitting with my Father as he enthused about the outlandish engineering aspects of this car.

The prototype centre steer Series 1 Land Rover< does it still exist somewhere or was it cut up for scrap.
It still exists.

Check out the Top Gear episode which featured Will Smith & that gorgeous Aussie actress whose name I can't remember.

Hammond was filmed sitting in it (The Land Rover. Not the Aussie actress).

Also there was a feature on the centre steer Land Rover in Land Rover Monthly around 12/15 months ago. I have the issue somewhere I think.
The original one was scrapped. Dunsfold Land Rover have been building one from just a few photos for the last few years, absolutely fascinating in the flesh.

My holy grail would have to be the Mercedes W125. I often swap between this, the C-Type Auto Union, or the Mercedes W154 with the V12, but I always come back to the W125.

I was just about in long trousers when I saw it (the black one) at the London Motor Show. Made everything else look so ordinary - including the Countach. Being a kid, I thought it was the epitome of cool in a Thunderbirds-Rolls-Royce-way, and I imagined myself driving it along the Southend sea-front, the envy of my Capri-driving friends.

Now I'm afraid I think it looks ridiculous. A rich man's folly. The white one, even moreso.

(And I think it's just as well that they didn't get the chance to Vmax it!)

Shelby Daytona Coupe.

Mrs NJH thought I had lost my mind when I said I wanted to build one of these:

Watching this little vid though brings it home why this is a proper grail car;

Even a holy grail has a price limit.

Had a model of one as a kid in about 1970 and awalys loved the swoopy curves, always looked like something special even when I was to young to know.

Only really understood how special the car was when I got older.

Only one ever made, crashed then stored by jag in a shed for years before someone offered to rebuild it. Now worth much more than the £7m offered for it.

That or a series 1 250 gto

Or a Ferrari p4

Or a Porsche 917K

Or a SPV smile

One car that I thought was interesting was purely because of its paint.

When I was researching BMW Z4's a couple of years back, it emerged that while many RHD Z4M Convertibles were sold in the UK, only one of them was white. (Quite a few coupés were white, but only one convertible.)

On BMW forums, quite a few people refer to it as The Unicorn.

I'm not sure I aspire to having a car purely because of its colour, and out of the posts here I'd have the Lancia Hyena of Ferrari 456 Venice please. But I thought that the Unicorn was an interesting story to share with you all. smile

So many good choices so far...

For me it would have to be the Citroen SM V8 (1 built as a prototype, I've always wanted an SM but the V8 makes it perfect), the Rover JET1 (it's a P4 with a turboshaft... what's not to like?!) and any Stanley Steam Car.

For me, the Impreza Series McRae must be the one. Sierra Cosworths aside, of course. The Impreza is the one that got away!

A few years ago, I spotted a beautiful looking one for sale in Fort William. It had been extensively resorted, according to the advert and it looked amazing. The spec list was massive and IIRC, it had had a bit of tuning to as it was rebuilt. I rang up intending to arrange to go and see it the next day, only to find out when I rang up that it had been sold the day before. Rare, and beautiful. A car that perfectly captures a moment in time for me.

The seats were amazing!

Since I was a kid and had packs of Top Trumps including this, and a Matchbox toy of it, I've been in awe the Monteverdi Hai.

For me it was always the Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe

After years of searching I managed to buy the only UK car ever sold. This was one of only 4 RHD B12s produced but more importantly the only one based on an 850CSi (The other 3 cars were built for the Sultan of Brunei and were based on the standard 850i due to a shortage of CSIs available). It is number 47/57 and the only B12 painted in Avus Blue which just happens to be my favourite BMW colour. Undergoing a full restoration at the moment but looking forward to the day it looks like this again:
