Are JLR going the same way as Audi by building one car in different sizes? I was in a dealer the other day studying a RR sport vs the FF RR parked next to it. Apart from the considerable price difference, they appeared identical from the outside. The Disco sport is pretty much the same as the Evoke and now this. As a very happy D4 owner, I hope they don't take away the boxy, good looks and cavernous practicality.

I think you may be disappointed then sadly. Hence why I've ordered a new D4wormus said:
Oh dear, the reason I don't drive a Range Rover of any sort is the 'new money' image that follows the new ones around like a bad smell. If this goes the same way I think I'd have to reconsider Disco ownership. For the foreseeable future, I'll keep my D4.

Looking at the photos, it's quite clear that it will have no where near the load lugging capacity of the D3. That's a real shame, as I think that is one of the great features of the D3/4.
Rumours suggest it will be getting the 4cyl Hot Fire engine. Not unreasonable, as I think it has 180bhp in certain forms, which isn't far off the 188 of the first D3s. However, it wing have the torque of the 2.7 and 3.0 V6. Maybe a coupe of turbos on the hot fire could make it competitive.
Hopefully Land Rover will be thinking ahead and will includ a hybrid from launch. We know that they have been working in the tech for a while. There have been a couple of 110s running hybrid systems and I think the disco could be a good platform to launch that technology.
Agree with what others have said regarding the weight saving. It has to shed a few hundred kgs and ideally sell with the £300 VED.
Anyone got ideas what show it will be released at? If there is a live feed, I will certainly be watching that.

Sadly not, just always been more of a Land Rover than Range Rover man for practical reasons more than anything. Liked Rangies right up to and including the L322 but they lost their appeal as soon as the RR sport came out. No doubt they are superb machines and even my D4 has the rather distasteful LED side lights, however I never see them as I'm always driving it. D3 was a much better car than the D2 and hopefully the D5 will continue that trend. [quote=Willy Nilly

There will be other reasons they want to get the emissions down. Reducing the group C02 will be one as JLR won't have many cars in the low C02 groups. Also, resale is well know to be affected by tax bands.
06/07 Discos are now at a point where they are the same price or cheaper with lower miles than 04/05 cars and this is purely down to the VED.
£40k? D3 HSEs were around 40k new, so I'm expecting north of £60k for the D5. I'm hoping that they will release D5 in the spring/summer time, so D3 prices take a slight knock. I'm looking to buy one around October time. Been my dream car since I was 11 years old.

Will I be able to buy one in Kaikoura Stone?
Will I be able to persuade my wife that we need one?
As a DS Ingrnium 180 owner, and a happy one at that, I'm really looking forward to seeing this. I considered a D4 and have no doubt I would have loved it, but seeing one sitting in the showroom like a looming grey piece of military kit next to he rest of the Land Rover range really showed up its age.
The other factor is that it was really just too big for our requirements where the Sport does the role perfectly.
I fear JLR will be chasing the easy money with this, making a nice car that appeals to a wide range of people from those who need its capabilities to people like me who buy them because they like them. I hope for the sake of "proper" Didcovery owners that will be able to carry a winch, snorkel and associated kit.
Like or loath it, the Land Rover brands are a credit to the company and they make a dent in the UK's Export/Import balance sheet.
