RE: Jaguar F-Type SVR leaked
Discussion
Is it just the couple of glasses of red I have had this evening or does that front shot at the beginning of the article look distinctly Nissan ZX or GTR ish.
Not many of them around over here but saw one in the flesh in a dealership, looked proper. If the Aussie drivers weren't so appalling at staying in their own lanes, or signalling prior to manoeuvring or being able to stop at red lights, I might consider blowing the moths out of my wallet.
As it is, the moths can rest easy.
Oh, and on the 'pops and bangs' issue, cars and motor bikes over here are actually made be to as loud as possible so it should go down a storm. Send them all here please.

Well I think it looks stunning! - as long as they really have stripped weight out of it. Forged alloys and carbon brakes are options on the current car, so I hope the weight loss goes beyond a Ti exhaust. Surely a carbon bonnet and roof are options, along with carbon front and rear bumpers. This is what I'd expect in a £110k+ Jag
I won't be able to afford one for a few years, but I'd like to throw in my sixpenneth-worth;
I applaud the fact that JLR are going to throw off the shackles and give the car the power it deserves, and the power which customers will no doubt love.
Cheaper than a 911 of compatible performance, more expensive than the dreaded GTR, although both of those offer nominal +2 seating.
I'm a little confused about the weight loss, as on the face of it , it seems to rely on the exhaust and wheels, which are just bolt-one to the chassis.. Plus optional ceramic brakes. But that doesn't address the body, which could perhaps do with enrol on a 'Slimming World' course...
Hmmm. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would hope that the design team would have considered carbon-backed lightweight seats, and carbon fibre bonnet or doors, reducing weight from the front, middle and back of the car.
No doubt I'll be shot down in flames over these views, and be branded a heretic...

the cost of tooling up for those components would be horrific when you consider how few of these will be made. As well as all the necessary crash testing, interior trim changes, bonnet panels, it would be hugely uneconomicI'm a little confused about the weight loss, as on the face of it , it seems to rely on the exhaust and wheels, which are just bolt-one to the chassis.. The chassis is basically a cut down XK and carries the same panel thicknesses (and therefore weight) as the larger car. If this had been a ground up car, there's no way it would have seen the light of day with the volumes involved.
XK also started off as a beautiful car like the f - type coupe. By the end it was the most awful looking Frankenstein I've ever seen. I can imagine Ian Callum wincing at the go faster spoiler tat but as long as the cheques keeping coming in from the Indians he'll keep his head down lol. Poor man. Er no sorry he's probably v.wealthy but you know what I mean! I expect he feels like the fellow who designed the original 928. Amazing design ruined by spoilers later in its life but this is taking that philosophy to a new level of fugly.MrTappets said:
Great news! Although a part of me would still love a hardcore version based on the V6S manual coupe to be the SVR.
I've said this on here before. A stripped out, rear-wheel-drive, manual V6 S would be much more fun than this. Dump the sound proofing, fit lightweight bucket seats and wheels, upgrade the engine internals to make it rev more freely and maybe turn the boost up a little. Call it a 'Clubsport' or something like that. Now that would be a real driver's F-Type.
I've not doubt the SVR will be a riot, but its not as if the regular V8 S is slow now, is it? All Jag need to do is look what Porsche did with the GT4. Enthusiasts can't get enough of those, can they?
