It would have to be the mustang for me. The new rs although probably a great car just does nothing for me, I think it's due to only being available as a 5 door.

Would love the mustang. Not keen on the rear end but I am sure I would get over it for a 5.0 manual V8.

I was waiting for the new Mazda 3 MPS that was due to be announced last year but apparantly they have shelved it for the moment:

Since the Mazda isnt going to happen I was rather interested when the RS was announced, but I'm not keen on how it looks like it's been dragged backwards through Halfords.

Love the Wolf in sheeps clothing affect my MK1 mazda 3 MPS has.

As OP said for a daily driver; the focus, it looks a bit more practical.

Saying that, leaving the car that will be No. 1 on the thieves want list at the station all day may result in not owning it for too long!

I don't get hatchbacks, I don't like Euro Fords.

So it'd be Mustang all day long.

But I'd rather a Camaro or Challenger/Charger.

Mustang V8 for me!

There is no substitute for cubes, and it is such a bargain!

I'm struggling to see how a mostly front-biased 4wd hatch is more 'hooligan' than a Rwd V8? The Focus may have a 'drift' button, but I'm sure the Mustang doesn't need one! hehe

A shopping car that's spent too much time at Halfords or an all out muscle car V8?

I'll let you know after I've driven both.

Mustang for me, it was built for the job.

The Focus however is just a suped up shopping car, like any hatchback with a big engine.

Easy one, Mustang all day every day.

I've been driving a LHD 2006 model all year round in all weathers for nearly seven years now and it has been the best car I have ever owned.

imho if you have the extra budget for the Mustang V8 and don't need the practicality of a focus sized hatchback then the Mustang should be the obvious choice.

The Mustang for me. I'd almost certainly never buy a hot hatch unless I needed the practicality, and I don't.

I'm pretty sure there would always be something I'd buy in preference to either car for my current use, though. smile

Does anyone know if that Mustang comes with an LSD?

Shopping cars typically have torque-vectored 4WD, don't they.

The Ford tech specs suggest so.

Mustang, drove one for two weeks in California and the new one is excellent. Plus why not have something different

Tricky one, I'd say Mustang but when it comes to V8s, I'm more of a GM man. My wife already has a Focus and it's a great little car. Costs buttons to run (unlike all my vehicles) and I've always liked Ford hatchbacks. Therefore, and because I have the rather expensive folly that is my Monaro, I'm going to say Focus RS. However, in a subtle colour, on standard wheels and with as few spoilers as possible because I'm not 12.

Mustang too big for roads round me, and lack of a hatch means nowhere for the dog. So RS for me.

Horses for courses. For me it'd be the FRS for a blast across minor rural roads and the Mustang for everything else if I was in the fortunate position of having to choose between them. Looks-wise the Mustang has the right balance of menacing cool and subtlety. The FRS is just too 'innit bro' (but what a car otherwise, it'll be the hatch of choice against its less able/overpriced rivals).

I believe only the base spec V6 does not get an LSD (that was certainly the case with the previous generation).
