'Stang.

You get to late 40's and life looks as though it's accelerating rather more quickly than you have noticed before so crack on and ship one in

Amazing that, European multi format car less popular than niche American car with a thirsty engine. Besides, I'd rather not be worried about what other people think, those that judge are total bellends wink

Either for me please. I've never been into Fords but am being turned with the latest and previous generation of hot hatches.

My Dad has a '15 Mustang out in Canada, seems a nice motor to me. Sadly he has the 2.3 Ecoboost 4 pot though frown

I'd have a Mustang in a flash if I could justify it. V8 engined muscle car: what's not to like? But I just wouldn't use it as I go most places with a dog in the boot.

But I can justify an RS! smile

The FRS was never going to win this - it's a 5 door hatchback for people who need the practicality (as well as the die-hard Ford fanatics). The Mustang can afford to sacrifice a little practicality in return for looks/engine/theatre as no one is going to be using it as a family car (I imagine).

FRS as a daily. Mustang for weekends. I wonder if anyone will actually do this. I'd consider it I think - when they bring the GT350 over here.

I'm struggling to see how a mostly front-biased 4wd hatch is more 'hooligan' than a Rwd V8? The Focus may have a 'drift' button, but I'm sure the Mustang doesn't need one! hehe
Completely ignoring the drift button gimmick, I would expect the RS to be the one which has had more time spent on sharpening it to be a driver's tool.

Whilst I'm sure that the Mustang is much better than previous generations, I honestly can't see it being a "proper" driver's RWD coupe like an M3.

Interesting.

I'd expect the opposite - from what I've read the current M3/M4 seems to be very much a "powerful 335i" where I'd expect the Mustang to be more driver and less comfort focused. It would be interesting to drive both to find out which of us is right. smile

You'll be considering it a long time then.....zero chance of them selling the GT350 here.

Out of interest why?

Its RWD, its a coupe, it is available with a manual gearbox, it has a stonking engine and now it has RHD and IRS to appease those that are scared of a LHD and SRA, which part of that stops it being a "proper" drivers car.

Explain to me how ST to RS is any different to Golf GTI to Golf R?

Upgraded body kit / wheels
Added AWD.
Upgraded interior
Changed engine.

It's a trim level upgrade. Like the R, like the RS, like the A45.
Admit it, you don't know what trim is.
He obviously has no idea. Apparently a stiffer shell, different engine and unique awd layout as well as bigger brakes, totally revised adaptive suspension is a trim level.

Nope, the interior and external appearance might count as a trim level but the rest certainly doesn't.

I guess he thinks his Evo is just a trim level different from a fwd Lancer.

I really like both, but either would be a weekend car for me.
So in that respect, neither.

My vote, 'Stang!

The FRS will probably be a quicker car across ground, but I bet the Mustang will put a smile on your face every time you turn the key and get a lot more attention from the over-25s, if you like that sort of thing.

I'd buy a Mustang for the purpose of a lazy cruiser, and a Focus for when I need something practical.

Yes. Still it's not unusual on PH to have to defend buying an M3 as it's a 'tarted up reps car' biggrin
Exactly! Not that I agree as they share little else but the interior mouldings, but it doesn't stop people saying it is, witness the ongoing thread on the Ferrari red M4, 70k? for a reps car?! etc. etc....

I saw my first Mustang on Saturday. I haven't driven either car of course, but just from the looks and the specs, I think I would regret not having had the Mustang more than I would regret not having had the RS. Surely that's what it's all about?
