RE: Jaguar F-Pace: Driven
Discussion
Colour me confused. I thought this car was already out. There was a maroon one parked outside my flat in the south of Glasgow during the Christmas holidays.
It was sitting on some of the nastiest, most scuffed aftermarket black alloys I'd ever seen, which is what really made it stick in my memory, despite it being the first time I had seen one in the metal. Spare set of winter wheels, I told myself.
So actually most likely a development hack given a bit of a run up from Coventry at Christmas, should I presume?

This could be just the thing my wife needs.
I'm starting to wonder if we have no imagination since we end up with Jags so often, but they just absolutely nail what we look for in a car so well.
Whoever decides the order of priorities and weightings thereof at Jaguar must be cut from the same cloth as me.

This is definitely on my list. I had a look inside a Macan recently, and although I'm sure it'll drive fine, I just cant get on with that button-fest of a centre console.
Agreed. I really rather detest the centre console in modern Porsches. Horses for courses as they say!

You will never see another one of these either off-road or on anything other than 22inch rims. Seems a shame they go to all the trouble of designing the tricky electronics and 4x4 systems when they'll never be used.
So what is the basis for this assertion? The same is frequently said (on this forum) about Range Rover owners. In fact, plenty of owners drive them off road - even more when in the hands of second and third owners. Also the "tricky electronics and 4 x 4 systems" will also do duty and be as useful in slippery road conditions caused by snow, ice, rain or mud. Fundamentally they appear to be derived from Land Rover's all terrain system but modified for the expected road bias of the Jaguar's expected use and given a different name. Like many Range Rover owners it be used for on road during the week and for off road excursions at the week ends. I can well imagine it also being used for, say, towing a light boat or trailer with dirt bike or race car in the USA.
This car is well-cenceived, looks good and complements the broader JLR pproduct and manufacturing strategies extremely well. Provided the execution is right, it will do well.

No. Why would it have come from Coventry? It was sitting on some of the nastiest, most scuffed aftermarket black alloys I'd ever seen, which is what really made it stick in my memory, despite it being the first time I had seen one in the metal. Spare set of winter wheels, I told myself.

I am reading this and see 516 foot-pounds and 6 second 0-60 with a diesel engine. It warms my heart to see this little niche manufacturer competing with the premium competition from around the world. Our local dealer, Monte Shelton, has been a Jaguar dealer and local hotshoe for 50 years and having the product they are producing now must brighten his bottom line. Now I wait for a nice used F-Type with low miles to reach my $20k price cap. It will be close as to whether I expire or the price arrives, but a guy can dream, right?
Why is everyone saying they don't know the prices yet?
You have been able to configure these for the last 3 months....

I agree with most posters; Jaguar have a winner on their hands here. I just wish they could have offered the 3 litre engine in a more modest spec. A starting price of £51k is too steep for me; if they could have produced a mid spec 3 litre diesel for, say, £44k then I'd be very interested indeed.
Still, sounds like they will sell every one they make, I'd imagine at full list price too for some time to come.
Mike.
