2.4 turbo 5 pot, with auto box and awd? That'll average in mixed driven around 18-19mpg. Really horrendous mpg.
Performance of a modern 150bhp car (ie. with more gears) but drinks like a 500bhp one.
Yep, it'll like a drink for sure - I reckon you are on the money there!Performance of a modern 150bhp car (ie. with more gears) but drinks like a 500bhp one.
But, weight for weight for weight, and comparing with another awd, would more gears really make up for 150bhp in a modern car vs the 200 bhp in this elderly Volvo?
Not saying you are wrong but surely 200bhp is 200bhp?

The bin holder is also referenced in the manual as being suitable to hold bottles also, which underlines my point about how well designed these vehicles are.
True. They have thought about a lot of things. The sun strip, for instance. I think suggesting it's for holding bottles is more an afterthought as the bag clip bit means it really was designed carefully as a bin holder. Otherwise, you could also say it's a marrow holder, an umbrella holder, a book holder, a teddy bear holder etc. The bin holder is also referenced in the manual as being suitable to hold bottles also, which underlines my point about how well designed these vehicles are.
I've just bought a manual 2002 2.4 V70 with 72,000 miles for £450 to use as my daily workhouse but already spent double that on parts in getting it up to my level ( perfect ) as I'm a mechanic. I was originally just going to do a service and some other basic maintenance but it's such a comfy effortless cruiser, air con, cruise control. The stereo is absolutely amazing in it. Would rival much more expensive systems ( like £2000 upwards sound systems ) in my opinion. I love the shape of the rear lights at the back and think it's one of the best looking estates out there apart from an Alfa.
