Has anyone struggled to rent a car in the UK after coming off a driving band?

I tried several of the bigger companies and a few smaller ones.

I found Enterprise will let you. Avis there is no chance but Enterprise will providing you have Driving Licence, Passport and two proofs of where you live e.g. Bank Statement and Electric bill. I took a bank statement and a copy of my latest employment contract.

I would recommend taking three of four proofs/ bills / statements and they must be less than three months old. Contract of employment is handy because it show's where you live and that you are earning money.

It takes a bit longer than normal, they call DVLA and put you on the phone to confirm a few details and ask you if you will share your data with the rental company.

You also have to provide three peoples names and phone numbers. This can be family , friends , work mates.

It does take a little time but the end of the day you can drive out of there and your not treated like some major criminal

Thanks Enterprise you got me out of a tight spot when my van was in the garage getting repaired. I could of lost a full weeks work.

Really? When I worked for them (admittedly many years ago) it was a definite no for any drink drive offences within 10 years.

Oh come on Enterprise, just because someone drives a van doesn't mean they can't tell the difference between of and have.

Yes.
Because on PistonHeads you'd come out as having a drink driving ban and go on about hiring a car.
Worst advert ever.

I couldn't give a monkeys about the van hire, it's a '"week's" worth of work Dave. The standard of shill is really slipping these days
