I wouldn't agree with saying it sucks as a daily driver, as an all round, one car solution to all of my driving needs I can't think of anything I'd rather own
I think many would agree with you for sure but for me as a one car solution it didn't deliver by a long way but that isn't to say there weren't certain things I did like about it, I loved its chassis and at 6k revs plus the engine came into its own but as a package it isn't without its flaws as far as I am concerned.

It's gutless low down without question...not sure the rest applies though.

What is wrong with revving the engine? It seems like a lot of people don't want to 'drive' cars anymore. All I read is that the M3 has little torque and references to 320D and the like. If your driving at 40mph and you want to accelerate, simply change down a gear and floor it.

Sorry, but there are some lazy drivers out there and possibly some that know no better!

First thing I thought of was this

Bit unfair on what could be a decent car but there's no doubt they attract a certain type.

Unfortunately I didn't have enough tattoos or gold jewellery to drive a Monaro smile

Amazing that 'normal' people, worse supposedly enthusiasts seem to get stuck on generalisations.

You don't need tattoos to drive a Monaro but it helps smile

My comment was a bit tonge in cheek. M3 is a decent car but it wouldn't hurt for them to have put a torquier v8 in it or stuck with the amazing straight 6.

That's not an M3 though............ wink

I didn't find the lack of shove low down a problem in the UK. It sometimes was a bit annoying having to change down when getting back up to Autobahn speeds after traffic as it did not allow for a relaxing journey. Loved my E92 and would have another one in a heartbeat if the turbo had to go.

How unpleasant, but neither cars were an M3.

I remember watching that video at the time and being pretty shocked by it, it's an unfair stereotype of the M3 though I think.

Question now is though: would you have it over a C63 or RS4?
As it's the only one that's RWD & manual - Yes there's no contest.

I had a Alpina b-3 biturbo 09 plate found it boring. So I replaced it with an e90 m3 saloon carbon black manual. The Alpina has more torque but to be honest the m3 feels more sharper responsive even low down the Rev range. I've used it regularly on the commute stuck in traffic on the m60 found it very easy to drive. Think a lot of these comments about the car not having enouthgh torque or low down power are rubbish. Probably made by people who would be better suited to owning a 320d and putting little m badges all over there car.

There are a few of us who have owned the E9x M3 and we have complained about its lack of low down power and you only have to look at its torque figure to see its pretty poor for a V8 4 Litre engine

Appreciate you cant have it both ways though because it does rev to 8400prm and because of that you pay the price of it not doing much lower down the rev range.

Its horses for courses and you either go with the low to mid range thump of something like the M4 but sacrifice the top end fizz, or you go for the V8 M3 and enjoy its top end fizz but put up with its flat bottom end.

Was yours a DCT? I briefly tried one a while ago and wondered whether that box would suit the engine more than the manual (I've not found BMW manual boxes particularly slick). In auto mode presumably the DCT jumps down a good few gears if you're pottering in 7th and get caught out by a 316d?

I'm enjoying my 330i and find the performance of that adequate (with only 220 lb/ft or so!) but do fancy one of these at some point, as mentioned shame that there wasn't a touring.

No mine was a manual as I liked the idea of a V8 mated to a three pedal manual as not many V8`s are, but I completely agree with you that the DCT is a far better match and I think its hides the limp bottom end far better.

I do enjoy my 330i for what I need it to do but in performance terms when compared to modern stuff its pretty poor, take a E9x M3 out and see what you think because plenty love them to bits for sure.

Interesting view. In your mind which profession deserves to drive the E90?

also as a chav dustbin, really? I urge you all to spend time in the e90. By no means the greatest car ever built but the engine is superb.

This holds far more appeal to me as a practical family car than the E46 M3 which I found to be quite disappointing.

Mate is selling one of these in Silverstone blue with 32k miles in excellent condition and needs £25k for it. Stunning motor.
