WTF is with the price of V-Power at the moment?
Discussion
Ok, fair enough if that is true but Shell must add a different set of additives to their fuel than Tesco because I've tested them back to back on my car a few times and my car always runs sweeter with less knock on Shell. Better idle and better MPG.
In terms of the other fuels, I have never tried to run any of the lower octane premium fuels as I imagine my car wouldn't like it too much and I can't afford blowing an Apex seal because of a bad tank of gas.

Well they come from the same batch, in the same tank with no additions on the loading gantry so maybe a placebo effect?
I am not knocking anyone for using either, but it's all in the marketing, the Shell V Power and all it's marketing and development, whereas Tesco just pay a premium for exactly the same fuel.
There is another 98 RON fuel that is the same fuel as Shell and Tesco supplied out of Stanlow (which covers from the North Midlands unto the borders) but I have not been able to find out who it is yet!

I was in Renfrew last week and happily drove into a Shell filling station for some V-Power. Not only did they not have it but their normal unleaded was 103.9. Everywhere else I looked in Scotland was the same, several pence more.
It's a disgrace that a Shell garage doesn't carry V-power, it has plenty pumps that one. No use to you now, may help someone else; there are Shell garages nearby in Paisley and Erskine, which do carry V-power.I've had other issues with that garage, as the staff appear to be imbeciles, I had one tell me the jet wash wasn't working due to water works, which was a load of st, they just didn't know how to process the transaction to give you the coupon which authorises the wash.

Probably not a Shell owned site then... Eurogarages I would guess. Shell and Bp have sold off most of their sites.
My local Shell station was always the cheapest around until EG took over and now is the most expensive
Snap. The Esso at Rothwell on the A14 was always the cheapest for miles but since it was revamped the price is crazily high compared to other local stationsMy local Shell station was always the cheapest around until EG took over and now is the most expensive

Could you send me a link to the report as I am genuinely interested.

Tesco 99 and V-Power are definitely NOT the same.
5 seconds on Google will find lots of info confirming that. Including a report comparing the two!

Tesco pay Shell to sell V Power as their own.
The same fuel, from the same tank is loaded onto the Tesco and Shell tankers at Stanlow in Ellesmere Port.
Not sure if either parties would want this to be common knowledge.
You say that with an air of authority, but I'd love to hear your sources. In fact isn't it almost the reverse? Tesco's Momentum 99 is created by Greenergy, a large oil/fuel supplier owned mostly by Tesco itself (so yes, in this case the supermarket *does* have its own refinery of sorts). When M99 came out Shell rebranded Optimax (98 RON) to be VPower 99 RON to equal the Tesco/Greenergy product. The same fuel, from the same tank is loaded onto the Tesco and Shell tankers at Stanlow in Ellesmere Port.

Pretty sure V Power is different than Tesco's Momentum.
AFAIK M99 has more ethanol and oxygenates, whereas VPower (which is indeed refined solely at Stanlow by Shell and shipped around the country) is a mix of base stock petrol, ethanol and methane GTL. As the previous poster linked, Tesco/Greenergy freely publish quarterly analysis of their fuels but Shell keep VPower a much more guarded 'secret'.
At the moment I'd be more interested in finding out who supplies Costco's few UK fuel stations. I've read it's Texaco but can't confirm. Costco HQ said they're not telling, though staff on the ground say it's from Chevron/Texaco.
Momentum is not the same as Shell V Power, I used V power in my old Saab 9 5 aero and it ran perfect - smooth and full power present. The 3 or 4 times i tried Momentum 99 the car felt coarse, went ok but felt horrible. On standard 95 ron car felt flat and definitely wasn't producing the full amount of bhp.
You are right it seems, the Tesco 99 and unnamed 99 RON fuel they tested are definitely not the same.
Thanks for the links.

Remember when Tesco's had a duff batch of fuel from their refinary and decided selling it and paying for the odd ruined Lambda etc after weeks of denial, was cheaper than ditching 3 million litres of fuel
When I filled up at my local Shell in Huntingdon on Sunday, regular diesel was about 100.9-101.9 per litre. The V Power diesel was about 110.9, normal difference.
I've never filled up with V Power anywhere that costs as much as 150p, more than 15p greater than standard is taking the p*ss a little bit. It's naive of them to think only enthusiasts will tolerate the premium for good fuel. Still, if enough people are happy to pay that much for it.. I'd rather find somewhere else.
