WTF is with the price of V-Power at the moment?
Discussion
Just got off the phone
As expected, the 2 garages I mentioned, Garforth and Kirkstall Road are franchises. There is an RRP (that she wouldn't disclose) that Shell give to the garages but ultimately they can still charge what they like.
I mentioned Regent Street and the one in Wakey I used were both 8p more and surprise surprise these are both company owned stations! So I'm guessing 8p is the RRP but as fuel is relatively cheap these days the franchise owners are just taking the piss knowing us 'enthusiasts' will pay it.
Annoyingly for me i'd probably spend what I'd save going out my way to Regent Street but I think I'm going to vote with my feet tbh and start filling up there, I'd feel better knowing someones not taking the piss out of me.
Filling up at a company owned station was actually her suggestion, but she'd noted the 2 Stations I mentioned and it will be passed on as a complaint.. but she couldn't promise any changes.

What number did you call? The Kirkstall Road one is right near my office, used them quite a lot but today is probably the last time. I guess it helps that we are moving offices soon. Horsforth one is closest one to my house so I might just stick with them. Dewsbury Road one will be closest one to work once we move, will have to see what their prices are like in comparison.

Called 08007318888 - couple of menus but they were obvious.
If they get more calls it won't hurt! If you do, have a moan about the Garforth one too.
I'm really hoping the Woodlesford one is a Shell UK garage, I'm thinking of having a ride down later. You're a bit more fortunate that you've got more in a stones throw.

I'm still smarting from the last time I filled up with 'v robber' and saw I was paying approx 15 p per litre more rather than the usual 8-9p
if it is the franchisees I'll do my best to visit Shell UK owned. The problem is the signs normally only display diesel and unleaded prices

It could be worse. I pulled into the Shell on Warrington Road, Wigan on my travels recently because I was on fumes. Regular was 102.9 and VPower was 122.9. A whole 20p premium! Suffice to say I stuck a tenner in and visited my usual (presumably company owned) station on the way home to brim it. The latter is at 99p and 107.9p. I might not particularly care about fuel/economy/etc but almost 20% more expensive for something that's only 8ppl dearer down the road? That's £12 extra per tank for no gain at all... No ta.I'm still smarting from the last time I filled up with 'v robber' and saw I was paying approx 15 p per litre more rather than the usual 8-9p

The Regent St one is where I'm filling up at the moment as I've got a contract over at Cross Green so go right past it. Prices there are "normal" as you say, just watch out for the collapsed drainage channel as you're leaving as it's pretty deep!philmots said:

Apart from asking the staff, and I'm not convinced they'd always know, is there any way of telling whether a station is owned by Shell?Don't know how many they have, but Shell sold a couple of hundred stations off last year, but they continue to be branded as Shell.
on the subject of prices, not sure if its due to the duty etc thats it might have bottomed out but we had fuel drop to 99.9p a litre over the last few months maybe 6 months or so but there its stayed and i still hear reports of the price of a barrel falling to all time lows.
i know the oil industry has felt the pain of the over supply etc this last year or so but all the same is the uk consumer being hood winked here? its dropped to below the £1 barrier but ive never seen it less than that and its been below the pound for long enough that i was expecting to see the 85p-90p a litre prices that were being suggested by the RAC etc last year. its like its hit a brick wall and wont fall any further.
im no expert on the ins and outs of the industry so maybe im missing an important factor.......im sure wed all still like to see lower prices. its human nature to want to save money. whats happening?

I was wondering that myself, it seems there's a 99p bottom limit that will not be breached regardless of the price of oil.i know the oil industry has felt the pain of the over supply etc this last year or so but all the same is the uk consumer being hood winked here? its dropped to below the £1 barrier but ive never seen it less than that and its been below the pound for long enough that i was expecting to see the 85p-90p a litre prices that were being suggested by the RAC etc last year. its like its hit a brick wall and wont fall any further.

When I passed my test 7 years ago, it was 99p per litre or thereabouts, it went up loads in the last 5 years but is now back to 99p per litre. Never ever seen it lower than that in my driving career!Edited by ashleyman on Friday 11th March 17:33
