Higher running costs, but less depreciation. And lots more grinning when you drive it.
This is a wonderful car (I have one) but it is not cheap to run...and mine is only doing 2-3K miles a year!http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

Abarth 500. Lot's of choice for around £10k....you might even get a convertible within budget if that appeals? Charismatic car that looks/sounds good which is relatively cheap to run and insure.
ooh yeah. seconded the abarth. thats if you dont like my correct earlier suggestion (the DS-3 is faster!)Get the car you really want, I didn't once and hated the result, if it's your only car don't compromise.
With that budget you could import your pick of a good one and as people say it's not that specialist that you'll be stuck with taking it to one place.
And because I had a great experience with them, give Torque GT a bell and use their personal import service
n/b other importers available.

Good suggestions above, or how about a Civic Type S? Most of the benefits of a Type R, but prob easier to live with and cheaper insurance & running costs.
Completely off topic but this comment reminds me of: http://sniffpetrol.com/2012/08/23/asktotalprickfro...

My other half was looking at a new or nearly new Mini Cooper S, we were also looking at alternatives like a Hot SEAT, VW GTI etc... as her current runabout (2013 SEAT Ibiza) was just not doing it for her on a difficult commute where you need a bit of power.
I got her a test drive in a Civic Type-R (FN2) being sold by our local Glyn Hopkin Honda. She loved it, I loved it, they did us a cracking deal and we signed on the dotted line - picking up Monday. The car was nearly new (10,000 miles on, one real owner, five services already!) and they gave us a warranty which was basically the equal of buying a new car. I see plenty of FN2s in budget, although not all from dealers. £10k can get a LOT of car these days.

I wouldnt recommend the Type R. Just finished a year in one - its very harsh, both in ride and noise. You have to rev it past 6k to make any sort of progress, and when you do, you get 15mpg.
C'mon? I drive mine everyday, I drive it hard and pretty much to it's limits and my average is 26.18 which is pretty awful. No way yours did 15mpg unless it was properly broken.
OP, buy the Civic. They're ace.

I never saw better than 230 miles from a tank apart from a couple of long boring motorway trips where I managed 270 (and 4k rpm at 80mph in 6th doesnt help), so around 20mpg average over the year. A couple of times I did the whole tank in less than 170 miles. That was 6 mile each way commutes, stop start and using the performance where I could, so the worst conditions for mpg possible. It still matched the quoted performance figures at 12 years old/170k miles though. I drive mine everyday, I drive it hard and pretty much to it's limits and my average is 26.18 which is pretty awful. Are you wearing lead divers boots
We've had an fn2 since new 08 , can get 330 easily to a tank 75mph
Even if it gets spanked it's in the mid 20s for mpg
Best mpg was 42 by the other half

Ill vouch for AH33 When i had my FN2 the most i got was 270 miles to a full tank on a trip to Liverpool from London. On my commute to work which was 8 miles each way I was averaging 21mpg. My average over 6000 was 21.8mpg. I could also empty a tank in less than 180 miles and even driving like a saint on my commute to work I only got 210 miles to a tank We've had an fn2 since new 08 , can get 330 easily to a tank 75mph

My FN2 was 2007 model with 26,000 miles on the clock when i bought it in 2012 and had full service dealer service history, so its definatley not unheard of for them to do those kinda miles on a tank

If you're going to go RWD for this next car, S2000/Boxster I'd recommend going for the IAM or RoSPA advanced test.
I know modern cars have electronic safety nets, but it may better to get some training so you're not reliant on them saving you if you get out of your depth.
If it's about the driving and not the scene or the pose then look at the MR2 Spyder.
Cheap to run, great to drive......
If people are suggesting Boxsters then the MR2 Spyder would seem like a junior Boxster, Elise alike.

I'm not sure I'd be able to gather up an MR2 Spyder if I got out of my depth so again a suggestion to get some more training if going RWD and mid-engined at this time.

God knows how you lot drive them. I drive 7.4 miles to work every day on rural B roads, my car sees 8000+ rpm every single day and still get 26mpg out of it. Did you just drive them in 3rd everywhere?
I cant get onto Spritmonitor.de at the moment as i log all my fuel fill ups on there and it seems to be down at the moment once i do ill post up screenshot of mine lolMy 8 mile commute each way is in very stop-start from South London traffic into Croydon so will probably account for mine lol but still those were the figures i pulled lol
When I was on Civinfo there were guys that were pulling figures like yours but there were a lot of us that were getting figures like mine as well
