I see a lot of cars with headlights out using fogs instead or even main beam.

It's ok though, with laser lights that'll be a thing of the past, but we'll all be blinded by the searing white light.

The amount of people driving with fog lights on, with or without working headlights. You wouldn't drive around with your wipers on, when it's not raining, would you?

Maybe just me but I don't care whether people have their front fogs on or not. They're not blinding, they don't conceal indicators like some designs of headlights, they make cars more visible, they're generally less painful to look at than DRLs, can't really see why anyone can get annoyed about it.

Whilst not excusing the lazy drivers, my car has adaptive front xenons and will turn the light off if the mechanisms or bulb fails and turn that side fog light on all on it's own. So I'd have to drive it like that for at least that trip home before I can fix it, really.

Ironically, my Friday night takeaway just arrived in a cycloptic Renault Megane (Fat Ass version)

Don't you have to remove part of the suspension to get to the bulb on those? Idea of that always put me off getting a Renault Sport Megane

But you'd be breaking the law wouldn't you. It's a ticketable offense to have your fogs on when it's not foggy, especially the front ones. If there were more traffic police on the roads, then all these fog light muppets would be getting pulled over. Long time since you learned to drive is it?

I think the Fogs thing isnt as prevalent, it was a late nineties into the 2000s thing, I blame all the adverts with cars with their fogs ablaze, muppets thought it looked good so tunrned them on, was usually french stuff.

JimSuperSix said nothing about condoning breaking the law.

He said that he doesn't dislike fog lights. I cannot see any relevance in your comment.

Quick release or slidemount light clusters should be mandatory IMO.
100% agree...the rear light units on my Suzuki Swift do this, remove two bolts a gental tap sideways with your hand and the whole unit is off.
Less than 5mins to change any bulb its an excellent design.

Saw a tt on the M11 the other day with no rear lights on at all, reflectors were covered in mud too. Luckily he was doing about 90.

You'll be pleased (or angered) to know that this is not just a UK problem.

1/2 the aholes on the road here in NL have at least one bulb out at the moment, its like a bloody epidemic.

Have to say im impressed with both my Focus and XC90, two quick release tabs and the headlights are out <5s for both cars... I agree that should be mandatory these days.
There's always a strange habit of assuming it's only a local problem but I tend not to bother disputing that.

It's just one of those annoying things that people do.

My car had a sidelight not working earlier this week but it's working fine now - I'm really hoping it's an anomaly and not a pain in the arse electrical fault that's waiting to come back.

Exactly, from a functionality point of view, DRLs and front fogs both do about the same thing, DRLs can be more unpleasant to look at, yet people get irrationally angry that another car has front fogs on but are OK with DRLs, I assume just from a holier-than-thou sort of view that seems quite common in life, and especially on this forum.

I agree with you. I don't use my fog lights unless it's foggy, but I don't see a problem with their soft glow. They're not harsh and don't glare like LEDs or the other types.

I disagree, front fog light use is worse than ever.

My theory is the mandatory DRL rules are to blame. People with older cars see all the new cars with DRL's and think "hey. I've got those extra front lights too. I'll switch mine on"

There are probably a lot of people who don't realise they have a headlight out until someone tells them. I used to have Z4 and it had headlights like candles, if I had one or two lights on I could never tell. I'm sure a lot of cars are like this.

I did see a car with no brake lights a few weeks ago, we were in slow moving A road traffic so I got alongside and got the drivers attention and told her. Just shrugged her shoulders. Can't help some people.

Yes, a modernish car... headlights only as strong as candles... I'm sure. No light on a wall or when you park behind someone? But a Z4 would probably also have headlight sensors. wink

There are plenty of cars around my neck of the woods with bulbs out but they are vastly outnumbered by idiots who drive around in poor visibility with no lights or just sidelights when the majority have headlights on.
