Ordered a 307 DTurbo and a Lexus RX450h before launch, the 307 was terrible and the RX was a great family barge. I'd never really want to do it again but then if I was ever in the position to pre order something like a GT3 RS I don't think I would hesitate in putting the money down.

I bought a Lotus 111R and Alfa 147 GTA before they came out or were even officially announced. They day mine was delivered there was a six month waiting list on both.

Apparently showrooms can now "rent" one from Ford if they have the desire to...

They could at least employ a sales person with a basic grasp of the English language!

I currently have 2 different deposits down on unreleased cars; BMW M2 (deposit went down before any details) & Porsche Cayman GT4 RS, so I'm general don't think it's a ridiculous thing to do at all, that said, I always make sure they are fully refundable up until a certain point.

Any desire to own a 4 cyl, turbo Porsche though.... That's madness... Any fuel savings will be more than offset by depreciation. Low down torque is something for wafty barges, sports cars should have rev hungry engines that need to be worked. (I write this slightly tongue in cheek, I realise it's just my preference).
