Does anyone have a car they dont need?

I have a company octavia with i believe a 140 lump. Its nice and torquey and great doing business miles in but its dull.

I live in a city, im on the outskirts so there is nice roads to drive on within 5 miles. However the location im in basically has everything i need within a 2 mile radius, gym, pubs, shops and so on.

Cars i actually want are coming in at 7500 and im just sat there thinking what is the point lol, but i still really want one, just seems a hell of a lot of expense to not go out in it much. Is anyone else in this kind of position.

Im kind of thinking long term aswell, if i pay the car off over three years then ill own it if i change jobs.

I don't need either of my cars, and even when I had 5 I didn't need any of them. I'm lucky that I have decent public transport, live close to shops, and walk home from work most days. I still love having cars for a bit of fun though, but have gone through entire winters before without driving at all

I have 3 cars and a motorbike which between them do less than 20 miles per week. Only one I drive is the old Saab to the train station and back. Really I should sell all of them and use a push bike but where's the fun in that?

Yes. I have 3 cars at the moment and I live on my own and I walk to work.

I have a kit car waiting for me to put the engine back in. I have an ST170 in the garage which is sorned and am currently driving a Mazda 3 sport. I only have both the mazda and the focus as I can't decide which one I want to keep!

I don't need my daft car, it sits for 6 months at a time, does maybe 3k miles a year, but I love it and wouldn't be without it. After spending all of the winter months and all of my weekdays in a Ford Connect, having an hour and a half out on a Sunday morning in something with 400 brake is a real treat, and maybe the reason I've hung on to it for 13 years now. I'd do it if I were you, only live once and all that crap.

Yep, I currently have 2 more than I need, it used to be three, but we recently moved out of the city.

So, while I definitely understand the desire to own a nice car as a toy and certainly wouldn't in general discourage people from doing it, I have to say it sounds like you might want to wait a while.

Without wanting to get too far in to the "buying on finance" debate, in general, I'd say cars purely as toys should be bought with "excess" cash you have, rather than on finance.

Only reason to do it now is if those £7500 cars are very likely to appreciate away. Otherwise they'll just slowly come to you, or you can get something even better in a couple of years time after saving some cash and you won't have wasted money on interest. If you ever leave your job and so need a car, you can just buy one then!

I have a company car and the wife has her car. I also have a Mercedes SLK 55 AMG sitting in the garage this car I don't really need and if I could I would buy another car. It's my toy, it's what I get to use when I can have a few hours to myself. I see it as my hobby, it's my gym, my cigarette or my pint down the pub.

I don't smoke or go out drinking every weekend. I'm a petrolhead so having a car in the garage is a necessity. I can't live with my boring 2014 Fiesta diesel or my wife's Ford Kuga diesel. They are dull and used for work. Fiesta sits in a building site car park all week and is covered in mud and the wife's is the family hack and dog carrier etc.

You may not need it, but it's fun!! I don't need a 5.4 V8 but I wanted it.

I haven't driven my car since Christmas. It's on a trickle charger to keep the battery topped up. We live within a 5 minute walk of the shops and the train station, we only use it to visit family. Probably going to be selling it soon. It would probably be marginally cheaper to hire a car when we need one but I can't be bothered with the hassle.

Usually have a few more than I need but I enjoy having them but it's hard to justify the expense if you add it all up.

If you have the money to afford it, and the desire to have it, why not? If you're into cars, you're into cars. Why not indulge your passion? If everyone rationalised what they spent their money on, no one would do anything.

I was working this though the other day.

I've got a car, a van and several motorbikes. The bikes only get used between March and September. The van is used exclusively to transport one of the bikes to and from trackdays / race meetings so sits idle most of the year and the car now only does c3000 miles a year.

I could sell them all and not be inconvenienced, but I would miss the fun part.

More the latter than the former in my case However, I used to do 20k+ miles a year in newish cars that liked to depreciate, whereas in the last few years I've probably spent similar amounts of money on keeping a small number of cars that do very little mileage. They still obviously need maintenance, but my fuel, tax and consumables bills are far lower than before, and I've been lucky to largely avoid depreciation so far with any I've sold

Hmm let me think, 4 landrovers and 3 scimitars as well as the daily driver,

so no.

a couple are on long rebuilds but the rest are used occasionally.
