Wandering our local Halfords today and noticed they have these 'super bright' bulbs available in various levels of increased brightness. And they were BOGOF. Is this the new 'chav' thing or are they the real deal for us losers who use the ordinary halogen type. At 35 pounds each they seem a tad expensive

I chucked some of those BOGOF Super Brilliance bulbs in my project VTS...much better than the tealights which were in it before hand. I'm happy enough with them smile

Just ordered some Osram NightBreaker Unlimited which have had great reviews for less than that.

They're meant to be great but with some reports of a shorter life.

They're better than standard bulbs, but the last test I read they weren't as good as the Nightbreakers for example.

I'd shop around and see what offers there are on other high output bulbs, but if you need some *right now* then they're not bad as long as they're on a BOGOF.

I fitted them to my wife's A4, they're quite a bit brighter than the ones that were in there already. I've used night breakers in the Berlingo and I'd say they still have the edge but there's not much in it, the osram bulbs are cheaper too.

They're not a revelation but they are an improvement. (I got the Bosch Gigalight ones.)

I have paid Halfords to fit them in the past just because they're annoyign and I prefer to get a coffee while they're doing them... but I was waiting so long I just fitted them myself and asked them to refund the fitting fee.

They didn't last that long for me, bright enough but only about 6 months life...

For half of that, you can get Osram Nightbreakers on Ebay. Easy decision.

I've not managed to get nightbreakers to last longer than 12 mths - the improvement in light however is worth that so I tend to shop around or buy them if they are heavily discounted.

- I do drive daily on a pretty crappy track and in the winter months when you have lights on is when they tend to pop - so I'm thinking they have a tougher life than normal

Shorter life is to be expected, brighter bulb = hotter filament = filament corrodes faster = shorter life.

This is a big reason why OEM's don't fit super fandangle bright bulbs when the vehicle leaves the factory (cost being another factor)

Makes sense.

Also in the middle of nowhere and often on crap roads up in the clouds so happy to put up with a shorter life if the results are there.

Need to upgrade the fogs as well. Anyone have experience of the Osama fog bulbs?
