And that MPG average over 26k miles? It stops moving after about 200. Try resetting the computer more often.
200 miles? No it doesn't?

Love my 435d x drive. Best of both worlds. Economical and decent power.

Averaged about 40mpg according to the OBC in mine over about 40k miles. Love the car and it's probably the best all rounder I've ever had. It didn't actually sound that bad for a diesel either but would prefer the 440i - just not when doing nearly 30k miles a year.

450d would be amazing!

In response to everybody discussing diesel v petrol engine note, I have a 430d and accelerating in manual mode without shifting past 2500 rpm, the car actually sounds nice, there's like deep straight 6 growl. I've seen many people turn there heads to see what it is when I drive past, especially when you let go of the throttle as the turbo is spooling, it sort of makes this woosh or whistle that sounds cool, obviously it's no petrol noise but I wouldn't say it sounds bad.

Also I have heard a 440i and 435i accelerate at full chat and they're actually not loud at all, quite muted actually, no pops or crackles, only on upshift you hear this nose but that's it. Quite disappointing really!

I agree having had both the E90 330d/330i and the 330d made the better noise inside, whereas the 330i actually sounds a little weak on the noise front...and it was like the 330d had a bigger capacity engine in it in terms of noise.

I took my 640d to Schnitzer for the (BMW approved) performance pack - effectively turns it into a 650d....and improved the fuel consumption!

Mine is now just coming up to 17k, lots of mixed driving but the lifetime average is currently 39.3mpg. How on earth are you getting nearly 50mpg?

Although mine is saying the service is due at 19k, as opposed to 24k - not sure why.

Also mine came on 20" Pirelli's which I was never happy with. But for winter (I live in Scotland) I put a set of 18" Pirelli winters on. So much better ride and certainly far more grip in the wet. Not sure the 20" are going back on.

I've just read that you only ever use it in manual mode.

Amazing, although apparently people still buy manual cars...

Which Pirelli winters, specifically? Are you on a square set up, same tyres all round? I am on 19” which are largely OK in North Wales (I am talking road surface conditions, not temperatures), but I may go to 18” next winter.
I am getting consistently 44-45 mpg.

They need to get rid of those fking 1-9 or whatever numbers they have that they copy and paste in anything from a 1 series to a 760Li. Such a yawnfest

I'd ease up on the Dettol if I were you.

I feel a bit more qualified to answer the question I was originally answering with the response above.

I've since swapped the 435d for a 435i. 435i is not leased so it's a much higher spec than the d was with things such as adaptive headlights/suspension, sunroof, m sport brakes, reverse cameras, HK audio etc etc and I've also added ACS springs, JB+ box, exhaust and a few other bits.

Trying not to let spec influence the comparison, the i is a beautifully smooth, wonderful sounding car which (even prior to ACS springs) sits a little bit lower and certainly rolls around a lot less than the d. However, you really do notice the 2wd vs 4wd difference off the line and on anything but dry roads it's easy to get the wheels to spin if you are a bit OTT with the accelerator. I made the mistake of parking on wet grass last week and struggled to get off.

I'm averaging 28mpg and I'm still doing the same 30k miles a year I mention above and doing the same sort of journeys so I'd say it's a fair comparison in that respect.

I probably still maintain what I said earlier in that the 435d is the best all rounder I've ever had but the 435i is much, much more fun. If I didn't have the RRS and I had to choose one car, it'd probably be the d purely for the x-drive as I remember similar conditions to the recent snow not being a problem in it.

Any excuse to post pictures;

Out with the old...

In with the new...

This thing

Yeah sure in the G30 it's nice shiny piano black and it's shaped differently but it's so boring, yes it works bla bla but can't they think of anything new?

AHHHH..... They are actually programmable function keys. They are actually bloody useful and one of the best USPs of a BMW functionality. It's probably the only bit of my BMWs that I now miss.

I couldn't work out what he meant either! But yeah they are pretty useful and can be programmed for anything. I had mine set for frequent Nav locations, radio stations, favourite contacts and the all important Sport Displays hehe

Those 1-8 keys are brilliant.

I can call my Mum or Wife, listen to R5L or Kisstory, get myself home or to the office. Only problem I've had so far is that the wife hated the fact my Mum was 2 and she was 4.
