Washer dryer recommendations
Discussion
Who is considered to be the "best" manufacturer in terms of reliability for washer dryers these days? I will be needing to purchase one as I won't have the space for 2 separate units. It will need to be the water tray collecting type rather than a vented one (not sure what the proper name is). Having a quick look on Amazon it seems to be dominated by Hotpoint, Russell Hobbs, Indesit, Hoover, LG, Samsung and Bosch, with not particularly great reviews on any of them.
I subscribe to 'Which' and following a tumble dryer fire that destroyed my utility, have been in the market for lots of new kit, washing machine, tumble, steam iron, hoover etc. The combined machines do not come out well in the tests I'm afraid mate, I'd also advise that a vented tumble is safer than a condensor. If I were you I would rethink, the combination seems to compromise on both fronts, sorry.
We've had an AEG washer/dryer for three years and while it's been an excellent washing machine the drying is not really up to much. Towels for example just come out hot and damp (bordering wet) even though it's supposed to keep going until they are dry.
If you have the space, separate machines no question.

We've got an AEG washer dryer as there isn't space for separates. I can't remember the model number but it's a best buy in which. The rinse and spin is fantastic and the drying is at least as good as any others I've used. It could be quieter but not really an issue for us as it's in a separate utility room.
Like you, I needed a single box to do laundry with cold water->in and drain->out. No vents or air bricks or whatever.
I went for this:

4 months later I can say I am happy with it.
The loudest thing it does is filling with water.
You shove a load of clothes in it, add the detergent, twist the thing to "mixed load", press the "...and tumble-dry it" button , press GO and leave it for 5 hours.
After 5 hours (yes a washer/dryer does take that long) pull the clothes out.
<spread across the floor/ hang over stuff/ fold neatly into airing cupboard> and give an hour or so to air.
It is worth having the +dryer rather than thinking you'll do the radiator thing.
