So the 140 version is even taller geared. That must feel very sluggish, the 140 version is not known for its performance, so that would explain it. Although the noise levels will be lower in the 140, it will feel a lot more sluggish in virtually all scenarios I would have thought.

Like I said though, look at the dB meter readings of the 2 cars for the same speeds in the other thread. Admittedly the different tyres will have an effect .......but interesting compared to the Astra Turbo which you might think would be a lot quieter

I did regular Glasgow-Edinburgh commutes (50ish miles each way, m'way) for a while in my old 190 and it was fine in so far as comfort went. It used a lot of fuel though... I'm not sure if I'd do the same now, getting older and I've got used to more modern (insulated, lardier) cars now. But yeah, it was OK. Not a hardship by any means.

impossible to keep it in lift during gearchanges, which is surely a major flaw in the 190. Still, a lot more fun than the 140!
Definitely not impossible but does take a bit of practice and there's only a few hundred rpm between getting an in lift change and bogging it down.

There are a lot of petrol coupe alternatives for under 3k all will have under 100k & be comfortable for a 340 mile round trip.

It's a 140 I've been looking at. Tbh I'm not to worried it's the slower of the two as coming from a 75hp Clio anythings bound to feel quick XD, not really a fan of the 3 compact, bit awkward looking imo

I do over 300 miles per week, nearly all of them on motorways, and use a Celica Gen 7 140 as my daily driver - alternating with an MR2.

I find the Celica absolutely fine for cruising on the motorway - it sits at around 3000rpm at 70. Fuel consumption is also good.

Thanks for your help everyone smile I may wait and see if a decent condition 320/25/28ci comes up near me and go and have a drive. Didn't realise CLKs came into this price so may look into that further too

Only passengered in a Celica, but it's certainly as refined as a normal hatchback.
