No, not naming and shaming.. just don't understand their business model. Here's the experience.

Had plenty of high performance cars with them going back 15 years. They were one of two companies who actually quoted my Jet Espace so clearly they cater for specialised vehicles however with mainstream different experience. Apologies for death by bullet point in advance:

  • Had a Jaguar XJ350 with them for two years.
  • Bought a new Renault Zoe as a commute tool and rang them asking if I could mirror the NCB - answer no.
  • Bought the Zoe and intended putting the Jag into storage (I like the car despite being an oil burner).
  • Zoe quote from Flux non-competitive - £880 for an electric car, blaming the postcode, but my Porsche is £117 at the same postcode irked
  • Got a quote for £279 for the Zoe from Swiftcover so took it.
  • Rang Flux to cancel the Jag, and put on hold while for a while. CS now does a U-turn and say they could offer a mirrored policy after all so I agree and now have both cars on cover.
  • Get an email from Flux stating they need proof that Swiftcover is using my NCB so I forward the email from SC saying they have received my NCB and it is accepted.
  • Flux say that it is not proof of my NCB and demand a certificate! I counter that my policy was with them previously and that the dates on the email show I have not been anywhere else (concurrent dates).
  • Flux says it will cancel the policy if I do not get a signed certificate from SC as proof.
  • Toys thrown out of pram - I request to cancel Flux policy, asked to hold. Told that in this case (?) they will make an exception and the information I have provided is now acceptable rolleyes
  • Policy now cancelled anyway by yours truly as either the information is correct or it is not. One or other.
Why the double standards; why do they change their mind when they think they are losing a customer? Twice now in a few weeks I get the decisions reversed. Policy is policy, and if they change it to suit me, what will they do if I need to claim? Faith with them equals zero now so I voted with my feet.

Nice to be able to post matters relating to insurance without the thread getting hijacked by R1Loon wink

They are odd to deal with but I do have a policy with them now... for my son on his Skoda Fabia 1.2 as a learner driver ! For this they were a fair bit cheaper than anyone else. But performance cars dont seem to be their thing always way more expensive than anyone else when I have asked them to quote.

Didnt get the PH discount either for my Sons car as that only applies to performance policies apparently.

ETA: And on insurance in general - Had 3 cars on one of those multi car policies but at renewal *ouch* ! And they clearlythought they'd got me locked in (Aviva) and refused to reduce the price. I have since insured each car seperately with Tesco and the price was about 50% less :-)

I had similar!! They insured my VX220 at 21 for £600 way lower than the main streams. They also insured my Land Rover discovery which was used as a off road play thing. Then they insured my modified Caterham, all modifications even full roll cage declared and that came out at £250 with 5,000miles. Now I have recently sold the Caterham and got myself a Mercedes SLK 55 AMG they quoted me at £3500, where did that come from!!!! I got insured in the end by a main stream insurer for £625.

They are a good company but they do have a strange quoting system.

I'm not the only one then wink

Now in my inbox I get this:

This is after my request to cancel was accepted - note the times and I waited on the phone for confirmation.

They do not have a clue!

Flux may be quirky in my experience, but your experience is common with uninformed and uneducated call centre agents across a wide range of Insurers. Stuff such as your postcode is a standard get out clause to a lot of agents just as waiting staff will trot out "a few more minutes..."

I used Flux for years but now they've gone to the dogs.

I've just done my renewal for the year - eventually paying Classic Line not much more than half of what Flux quoted.

I was with Flux for 10 years untill this year.
They aded £250 on my policy and asked for my hundreds of reciepts to be emailed through again, for the agreed value (turns out they dont hold them on file)
I went elsewhere and saved nesrly £300

And for christ sake don't cancel part way through a policy. These feckers will then show you exactly what they are like.

That would be Dan@Adrianflux I think, he certainly gets about a bit as he's on a few local forums too. They don't seem to have anything better said about them there, either.

all a mountain out of a molehill.

Honestly for the last twenty odd years I've been with flux, only with sports cars. Every year they are the most expensive until you let them know the alternative quotes, then they become the cheapest, EVERY YEAR.

Last year the minute I got the quote I simply replied on email with my name and password for compare the market. Within an hour they came back with a beating quote.

Really how difficult is that. To whinge about how dreadful they are on the phone is like whinging about how dreadful your life is. Every insurance company I've rung through the years is the same. Ring them, get a quote, five minutes later the quote has changed or can't be found, or they've mucked up something on the form.

If you're bored of flux then by all means use your feet, but don't kid yourself you have found insurance nirvana in your new company, they are all the same.

My advice is simply to use email cos there's an audit trail and it doesn't reply on the vagueness of the spoken word. Its just nice that instead of bartering with flux they will automatically check compare the market with a little prompting and alter the quote to suit. VEry few companies seem to do that without calling you to tell you it isn't comparable.

I've never has an insurance company who didn't do the same
Sadly, very true.

I cancelled the Elise insurance last year when I sold it, from the ~£250 policy cost I was refunded £64 when I had only used 3 months of it!

Makes we wish I was still paying insurance monthly.

Not to the degree Flux do. They've turned it into an art form.

This type of "service" has been a characteristic of Flux since forever. No idea why they can't get it right.

I'm going to throw my hat into the ring and say I've had a few annoyances with them along a similar vain.

When I bought my GT86 in September, I was told it would cost ~£100 to switch the policy over. Bit steep considering I only had a few months left, but I decided I had no choice and accepted.

I picked up the car, had a couple of days free insurance but rang Flux as soon as anyway! I was then told:

- You can't transfer to this car, it's too valuable.
- You will have to cancel the policy, forfitting this years NCB.
- Our best quote for a new policy is £2000+ for you, with a £750 Excess.
- They "Couldn't find" record of the previous call I'd had to them a few days earlier of which they quoted a ~£100 transfer fee.

After getting a quote from Sky Insurance for £600 fully comp with a £250 excess, I went to leave Flux. When suddenly "Oh, actually, we can do what we quoted before"

My renewal quote came along in December wasn't even that expensive, but I left them for Sky anyway.

HOWEVER, I would say nearly all of my insurers have managed to irk me with retarded call centers at some point! Can't just pin it on them.

Used once never again make a claim true colours come out.
The broker they use, when you claim is not the same company as I found out.

That is what lets down there service for me.

I dont think all brokers are perfect, nor are they all bad. Sky messed me around with money in the past but their broker (Marker Study) seem to be quite good.

Then again, I've never had to claim...
