Sadly, very true.

I cancelled the Elise insurance last year when I sold it, from the ~£250 policy cost I was refunded £64 when I had only used 3 months of it!

Makes we wish I was still paying insurance monthly.
How would that have helped? You'd still be liable for the balance.

I dont think all brokers are perfect, nor are they all bad. Sky messed me around with money in the past but their broker (Marker Study) seem to be quite good.

Then again, I've never had to claim...
Flux is a broker. Sky (if you are referring to Skyinsurance.co.uk) is a broker. They will offer quotes from panels of insurers. Markerstudy do own insurance broker businesses coincidentally, however, they are not brokers, but insurers.

The guy saying in the event of a claim flux outsourced his claim would have bought an accident management policy, presumably his legal cover and then be the first to moan about his details being sold on.

Armchair experts.

Repeating what other people have said about cancelling your policy. 3 months into my mx5 policy with them and I cancelled due to changing car as their quote was stupidly high. £500 I was paying, £94 I got back. Never again.

Even for a broker I feel that Flux's fees are excessive (bold is my formatting):

Our charges
In addition to premiums charged by insurers, we normally make the following charges to cover the administration of your insurances:
£25
Making mid term amendments, processing cheques which are returned by our bank as un-cleared, cancelling policies.
£35
Arranging collection of bad debts with our debt collection agency.
Making changes to your policy (including cancellation or null and voiding) as a direct result of misrepresentation or non-disclosures by you
at time of the quote and/or inception of the policy (in addition to any standard administration fees or additional premium charge by the
insurance company).
Upto £100 For setting up new policies and renewing a policy (non refundable).
£15
For arranging an agreed value and sending call recordings.
If the policy is underwritten by Trinity Lane Insurance Company Ltd then a percentage fee based on the insurer's premium will be applied to the policy in addition
to those listed above
Your insurer may make a charge for any amendment made to your policy in addition to any increase in premium and our mid term adjustment fee.
Return premiums (usually arising if an insurance risk is reduced or the policy is cancelled), will be refunded to you net of commission (or percentage based fee if
insured through Trinity Lane Insurance Company Ltd) which could be up to 30%. Where applicable, all refunds will be processed to the same debit/credit card that
was used to make a payment on the policy.
If you take a new policy out with us and make a payment towards this new policy but have a previous policy with us that has an outstanding balance we reserve
the right to transfer any money paid on the new policy to cover the debt outstanding on your previous policy.

It seems that random high quotes for mid term changes are common.

Ok, I thought I would post an update. In fairness I received a personal call from Rachel Porter from Adrian Flux. It was an empathetic conversation so in balance it needs to be mentioned here.

It appears that this thread made board level and so I had a frank call with Rachel who explained and also apologised on behalf of Adrian Flux. I said that if Flux would like to win me back as a customer (subject to competitive premiums of course), then they need to improve the communications and the attitude that I received on the earlier phone calls. We also discussed technical issues with the timings of communications as stated earlier in this thread. This is also being addressed.

The fact that they found me and contacted me goes some way to prove they do care about customer service and their reputation. I'm not your stereo typical Mr. Angry but when communications do break down it's somewhat reassuring when you get a follow up call. Furthermore this email was waiting for me when I returned home, again, offering a path for future communications. I'm not planning on taking insurance out imminently but I will update this thread if I call Flux again.

For those that had not seen a picture of the Espace.. here's a teaser but it will be years before it's finished smile

Nope, I'd say that'll be finished about 30 seconds after you light the engine!

Uh, I didn't say Sky wasn't a broker? In fact, I was directly comparing them as brokers..?

But equally, you think Markerstudy is a broker, so my seeking or clarification was entirely justified.

I'll be adding to the list of people cancelling insurance with Adrian Flux today.

Have been a customer for probably the last 7/8 years with them, a BMW 330 sport, a 335i M sport, and having just upgraded again to an M3, I call up and get told my current underwriters won't insure me (17 years no claims), and the best quote they can give me is £1600. From a sports car specialist firm, it's a joke.

Best part was when I was told I needed to have owned a high powered car for 12 months before my underwriters would look at insuring me. How does one do that with no insurance?

My current car has 300bhp, how much performance is enough?

Anyway, my business has now gone elsewhere for less than half their quote. Just the dodgy cancellation fees to deal with now - something which I feel all of us need to write to the ombudsman about. We've had money back for bank fees and PPI, lets get the insurance ones a bit fairer now too.

I was wondering that.

That's not far away, but not in relation to admin fees - 'add on' policies like legal expenses/uninsured loss recover, GAP, breakdown etc. are going to under very heavy scrutiny in the next couple of months (well, they're already under scrutiny, the proverbial is going to hit the fan in the next couple of months).

Amazed this thread is still here - naming and shaming one of PH's sponsors !

So in summary, AF are not a performance car insurer - something I knew as I've tried a few times and they dont want to know. But they are good at insuring euroboxes at keen prices - my experience is limited to my Son and his skoda fabia 1.2 and no one else could get close on price.

So for most PHers with their ordinary cars and daily drivers they are probably really good.

Those of us with performance cars go to a company that really understands our needs and gives us a fair price. In my case its Tescos at the moment !

Did you read the actual sponsor thread? It was brutal! hehe

Got to admire PH for not deleting it!
