I have gone to crucial and downloaded their crucialmacscanner see pic. to check what memory I need if I want to add more. But if I double click it, or drag to applications folder and click it, it just says the crucuialmacscanner cannot be opened. Am I missing something?

package contents opened out if it helps:

How do I get it to work?

thnaks I thought that was going to work! But it didn't. I have changed the preferences to allow apps downloaded from anywhere, but still no joy. I even ctrl and click on the icon and choose 'open' as I read that can work but it still says it can't be opened:

the annoying thing is I know I ran this app in 2012 when I last bought some memory! (this is a new download of the app though)

I did not change that, handy to have. I thought you right click the program in applications and "open" then agree and it will run?

I think, not at mine at the moment.

Will it run on your version of os?

Some of the timestamps on the internal folders look a bit screwy.

Download a fresh copy and unpack it again. The copy that I just downloaded runs fine, after the security settings are changed to allow it.

Yeah the open doesn't work just immediately gives the dialogue box above. I don't know if it is compatible with my version, I am just assuming it is. El capatain on a late 2009 mac Intel core duo.

That's not the security error, that's something more fundamental. If El Cap. doesn't like the app. because of signatures and download location, it will tell you and then the Security control panel will have an option to open the app. anyway.

Oh - and it doesn't need to run from Applications - it'll quite happily run from wherever you unpack it to.

I would run diagnostics on the disk.

it's a desktop mac (imac?) not a macbook. Does this help?

you can manually choose the model of the Apple iMac so that you don't need to go through the scan... the info you need is on the about mac section of the top menu bar.

Oh I see what you mean (you mean choose the model on the crucial website). Yes, I know what model etc and what memory I need, I was simply going to double check using the scan feature.

Ok cheers all.

Yes do a manual search, wouldn't want some third party app running a scan anyway!
