Maybe more interesting to know what the car companies don't do or can't do in IT:

Can Germany's manufacturers do digital?
Reads like there (VW) no different to any big companies or organisations in any country in pretty much any large established industry.

Back on topic how much of the industrial automation (embedded control and sensor/reporting networks) is done in house these days or is it all outsourced? Same question I guess for test rigs.

I'd say 'looking for inspiration'!

I'm not actually being marked on the content, but how I present it.

Backups, don't forget the backups ..
I can tell you with 100% certainty that certain big manufacturers run their own backups. The personal in some cases are contractors, but kinda permanent, and they own their own hardware.

Security / SOC - all that design is great until it flows out the back door and you've helped make the next Land Wind wink

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

Hi guys, quick update...

My pitch was good but not great...

After they questioned me a bit more I revealed my trump card (final part of the pitch which I purposely left out at first, as this one part alone would answer EVERY question they'd have)...

And they absolutely loved it.

Got the job! biggrin
