I've become intrigued by these, initially took an interest in Bulova, read about their Accutron, but have come across some very reasonably priced Omega F300s which are tempting, as Omega is my holy grail watch. They are quite old but look in reasonably good condition, what's peoples thoughts on them?

I like them and, like you, initially looked at the Bulova, in particular the Space View. I soon found out however that there are more fakes/"converted" models on the market than genuine ones, so decided to just wait a while, though I still kept researching them and finding out little snippets of information which I've since forgotten. frown

In the end, I went for an Omega Constellation with day/date and up to now it's been spot on apart from having to replace a couple of batteries. Old picture below. Apologies for the quality...

A couple of links for you to browse: -

http://www.accutron214.com/index.htm A few sales but a good history report.

http://oldfathertime.com/spacevie.htm Several for sale, lots of pictures and history

Both the above are US based, though if you do get one, a guy who knows them intimately is Paul at Electric Watches. http://electric-watches.co.uk/ UK based and repairs them, though is always busy.

As above, regular battery replacement in my Seamaster, but they're pennies and easy to do, cool looking retro watches. Must wear it more.

Which models are you looking at?

I've got an f300 Cone, but I don't wear it a lot. I much prefer my Bulova (and a Longines I had for a while).

I'd love a Speedsonic though, great looking watch, whatever the movement!

The one I've found is a Geneve, looks rather fetching with the leather strap. All I have are stainless steel bracelet watches so would be a nice change!

Thanks for that link, Universal Geneve do a really cool Dive Watch that has the same movement as the Bulovas, I have wanted one for ages and ages and ages but have never bought one over worries over the movements repairability. Thanks smile

I've had a number over the years, and they're great.

Accuracy is pretty good when looked after properly, and as noted, batteries don't tend to last long. Aside from that, they have a lovely smooth sweep as a general rule, and you can pick up some great designs too - for a typically reasonable price.

Omega did a Megasonic, and a few of the manufacturers did chronograph versions too.
