Anybody have any suggestions for folding brackets that would allow a workbench (kitchen worktop) to fold up against a wall instead of folding down like most seem to? Cheers smile

Folding brackets? Hinges at the back and some sort of hook or clip to hold it up would work. Depends on how easy you want it to be to fold up and down and if the cosmetics matter much.

Yep, big hinges and a swivelly clip thing (two bits of wood and a screw). I did just this for a friend's model railway set, and the legs fold down as you lower it.

Like this? There's plans, but effectively strap hinges on the top and some blocks on the wall underneath the top for support.

Maybe should of mentioned, I don't want legs on the bottom of it as there will be stuff under it, and it's not got walls either side so no supports at either end. That's why I'm thinking folding brackets rather than hinges. smile

I think you'd want your support as far from the hinges as possible -- for strength. What about aircraft cable coming down from the wall to the two corners of the bench, like a drawbridge?

How about right-angled triangles of plywood hinged vertically to the wall at each end? Swing out to support bench, then swing back against wall.

Finally found brackets that work the way i want and no need for extra support as they are rated at 500KG the pair. smile

Wickes do some collapsable shelf brackets.

So you can hinge the worktop as you want - and then pull the brackets out from the wall to act as extra support when its down?

The above photos are my workbench using the brackets I sourced online. I don't need other bracket and hinge combos.
