I think she'll just about get in an SLK for about £280 if she pressures her dealer but it will be poverty spec, or you could see if they have an ex demo they want to do a PCM on, that way she still has a car within it's warranty but at a lower starting price.

If you class a Z4 as a sports car then an SLK easily qualifies.

This may be an "old-fashioned" sort of reply but if you can't afford it, you can't FcensoredG have it!

Unless you want to subjugate yourself to a PCP - in which case good luck!

Sounds as if she views a car as an ongoing expense rather than as an object to acquire. Perfectly reasonable position.

SWF just turned 30 wants something 'sporty'..... don't forget sporty to someone like that could mean a Beetle convertible (not quite a 2 seater I know but the rears are pretty poor) or a 500 'vert

new mx5 with the 1.5 should be in budget and insurance friendly. Might be cheaper in a few months as they tend to do a discount into summer.

I suppose I should say the car she has which I'm currently looking at is a Merc 220 with amg badges all over it.

Not sure an MX5 would really be any sort of step up.

It would be a step up in some ways, whether in any that she cares about is another matter.

I guess you need to find out if she wants what PH would define as a sports car (MX-5 etc) or a German saloon/hatchback with "sporty" badges.

What about some sort of MINI?

A 220AMG sounds a lot more seats and chromed plastic than engine and handling upgrades.
Best thing to do for people asking for car advice at work is just chuck a few car mags their way and wait for them to buy the most random assed thing that no one on here would probably want to own. I seem to remember the last girl at work who said she wanted a sports car got a diesel volvo with a knackered DPF.
