Well, it would be rude not to have a little chime in!

I've just the last couple of weekends been on a mission to sort braking out - there's more on it on the thread over there somewhere, but I've gone with Godspeed Kevlar pads and grooved disks, and the feel is very good.

Since the bedding in procedures and a bit of careful driving, I've given them a damn good testing, as others have said, there is a bit extra noise from the grooved disks when braking hard from speed, but the effect is well worth it.

They also look quite nice behind the wheel as well - excuse the grot and dust - like I said, a DAMN good testing!

I've not bitten the bullet myself with braided hoses yet, but it is certainly on the shopping list, as I am told that it transforms the feel through the pedal.

Glad you're enjoying the car, and I might just have to steal your paragraph describing the hunger for a corner - you've managed to convey something I've just not been able to! I'll admit though, that after a week of keeping it sensible, I did have Mrs Noname grabbing for the 'oh st' handle and seat bolster at the weekend giving it some of that glorious four wheel anger!

Edit: No idea what is going on with the brake pic - tinypic keeps turning it upside down.. you get the idea!

The brakes fitted to mine were worrying.

I just couldn't push on with any confidence as the feeling of 'I'm never going to stop this if anything happens' was always there

fitted Performance Friction pads and all is nowwell. 100% confidence, zero fade even hauling up and down Snowdon at full tilt a few times a year

Decent price, not much dust, no noise, cold start fine, pedal feel never changes, the list goes on.

As said, you'll need the HD mounts if going thicker on the rear arb

Another forgotten treasure is a Subaru Legacy GTB. 280hp stock with twin turbos. They seem to be cheap as these days and are unknown to most modern hot hatch or super car owners. A well sorted one will out run most 'quick' cars as they were 0-60 in 5.5s stock. This can be reduced with mods and mapping and up to 360hp can be achieved without going down single big turbo route. So with the amazing awd handling and full boost at 4000rpm coming in you out run the majority of Porsches, Astons, Jags and Beemers all the way to the end of the 185mph speedo! All this whilst on your way to the tip with a boot full of slabs and garden rubbish. Go Legacy they have more to offer then the Forester and Impreza and not as fugly and currently a hell of a cheaper too!

I have been waiting to scratch my Scooby flat 4 itch, but I have to carry a lot of stuff around. My current mule is an Octavia diesel estate with sorted suspension and a tuning box which makes it suitably entertaining, but life is short and I would really like to try something a little less sensible.

The Octy spends most of its time in van mode with the back seats down and ladders on a rack on top.

How much can you carry in the back? Do the back seats go down flat? is it possible to to fit some reasonable roof bars or a roof rack?

TA!

You can get loads in the back, it is a large estate. I would go away for two weeks with wife, 2 kids, collie dog and push chair and everything we needed. No roof box!!! If you drive at 3800rpm on motorway so it drops off boost you can actually get in the 30mpgs. Racing super cars sees about 15mpg. Takes alot of will power to keep of the turbos though!!! Honestly best car i have ever owned and shows up Range Rovers and X5s in the snow. I now drive a VW Transporter mostly for work and my wife drives the Legacy. However as she does short drives it is not economical and it's too big now we have a van for holidays if needed.
I was considering selling it but based on the price they get i would rather hold on to it little longer and strip it for parts and use the newly built engine in my 1971 Beetle!!!

Not sure about the Forester (luggage space may be taller but not as long?), but Legacies have a lot of space in the back and the seats do fold flat - to give you an idea, the load space is long enough for me to have put a bed and mattress in the back of mine with the seats folded down.

Still good space with the rear seats in use, I've had 4 mountainbikes in the back with 5 people in the car.

The Leggy is a lot more... leggy

The Forester STi is not 'that' roomy with seats down. Can get bikes in and a fair load. Depends how much stuff you want to get in

+1, This, as I also put in the other thread, somewhere... GodSpeed groved discs and kevlar pads on my BL5 MT6 Legacy GT (which I just sold TODAY weeping ) with SS pipes also from Godspeed. much improved the brakes.

I read an article on PH about 18 months ago and pretty much the same story. Needed something that could carry two large dogs and still shift and the German stuff is just boring and everywhere. Haven't regretted this purchase once.
