I had an amazing amount of fun driving one of these in LA for a few days last year (auto version).

I've not got much experience of higher end machinery but I was pretty impressed by the auto box (in full manual mode I didn't have any complaints about it) and the handling.

As a car it was lightyears ahead of the Challenger R/T we'd had out for the previous week, which was slower than I was expected, and handled like a boat. Was fairly happy to hand that back to be honest.

One of the first things I did when I got home was to see how much they cost on PH!

It's astonishing how far things have evolved. Traditionally, if somebody would mention buying a car of around 500hp, this would sound extravagant. Or impossible at any price.

When strangers ask about the power, the look on their faces says that to most of the public it is! When I first bought the GTS, I was in the same boat, but 15k miles later, it just seems normal to me. Perceptions change remarkably rapidly.

A pleasant surprise to find my own car the subject as a YKYWT article!

Have to say the ZL1 is a brute (as it should be). Although the SS is a good car in its own right it, the ZL1 drives and as importantly sounds nothing like it – with so many changes from the standard cars.

In terms of driving on UK roads since moving back, as someone mentions it’s a big car and you feel it on some smaller B-roads, however with the magnetic dampers and impressive traction/stability control it makes for a decent ride. It doesn’t feel as big on the inside but have managed to get the Mrs and two boys (in car seats, along with their double buggy), comfortably down to Goodwood for breakfast club, so no issues there!

Brought it back from the US thinking it would be a keeper, but unfortunately a house extension changes that idea.
