Buy a people carrier and remove the rear rows of seats, dont vans have to either be almost new with a efficiant engine or pay a large fee to be used in central london?

Only based upon my visits and things ive heard, not a local tongue out

Avoid the caddy or equivalent with the 1.6 diesel. Dose of an engine that eats £400 injectors.

We've no issues with the little Renault ones kangoo I think, or the small Vauxhall. Never had a connect in our business but they seem OK too.

If you have a van for carrying waste, you may also need a waste carriers licence.

Transit 85t260 will suit you down to the ground here.
Short wheel base, but still able to fit full sized sheets of ply and plasterboard.
Plenty about in mk7 shape(2006 on) in your price range.

wrong, older diesels yes but not all diesel vans. They need to be the newer Euro 5 or 6.

I am amazed no one has mentioned the old style expert/dispatch/scudo!
Mine takes a 2m ladder internally, high top and two side doors makes it better than most for loading and, best of all, it is surprisingly good to drive. 3 seats is useful sometimes too.

I'd go for the 2L turbo diesel.

edit: LEZ compliant too.......

According to this : https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emission-zone...

My euro 4 VW Caddy is still ok.

Obviously you can drive a diesel van in London, I meant IIRC all diesel vans have to comply ie there is no exemption which diesel cars and petrol vans have.

Regs will only get stricter meaning newer vans are required to comply.

Given it's more an occasional use van I'd give some thought to the Japanese grey import minivans delica/alphard/bongo etc that might be more versitile, you have "car" speed limits/tolls and nicer to be in but with seats out are basially vans.

That Sir is a jolly good post, and one I'd agree with.

Lots of regulations on vans that cars don't suffer.
