To answer the thread's question, I'd buy a Land Rover rather than a Jeep.

I like both LR and Jeep; no real favourite between them - they are jointly my favourite 4x4's however.

I currently share a LR Defender 110 with my Father which has proven itself brilliant in Kruger National Park these last 6 years.

I owned a LR Discovery 4 which I found to be very capable and capacious. My RR Evoque was fun and a joy to drive and my RR Sport was a much-loved SUV.

I then tried a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it was easily a match for the LR Discovery.

Next is a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for my home in the Algarve to tow the jetski!

Now getting banner adverts for Jeep smile

I don't need a proper small 4x4, but if I move to the sticks the Renegade Multiair 170 Limited will be higher on the list than an Evoque Si4.

Jeep for me.

Had a 2005 4.7 Hemi Overland Grand Cherokee that was used as a daily and battered in the dunes of the UAE regularly. Never missed a beat. It was made in Austria, not the US.

My friends LRs have been nothing but unreliable money pits.

The new GC is fantastic.

Land Rover, well a proper one any way.

Defender, disco or Raange Rover.

Learnt to drive in my first S1 86inch Land Rover, never had a Disco but had 5 Range Rovers the P38 nearly stopped me going near the brand ever again, terrible car but not as bad as the Land Cruiser I tried next, that drove me straight back to Land Rover and more Range Rovers.

Jeep.
Had a grand Cherokee for 3 years, and loved it. Sold it with 115k miles, and everything still worked.
Had a disco 3 courtesy car, broke down twice in three weeks.

Land Rover biggrin

Pain in the arse sometimes but I love it and they really get under your skin.

Surprisingly, there has been a bit more love for Jeeps than Land Rovers on this thread... For the record, I like both but my budget is a bit more Jeep and I'm OK with that. smile

And it needs more 'stuff'. Stuff, incidentally, that would not fit in the laughably small load-carrying space of a Wrangler!

As they say in Australia.....

You can drive Jeep's, Land Rover's etc into the bush..
But... if you want you survive... get a Toyota.
You won't go far wrong in life ignoring anything said in Australia. wink

Four classic Range Rovers, One Series IIA, Two Discoverys and a Range Rover Sport So far. And currently working on the man maths to replace my RX8 with a Defender (Don't want to scratch the Sport too much yet smile).

I can't imagine not having a Land Rover in my life.

For me Jeeps are OK but look a bit quirky. Toyotas are I'm sure excellent vehicles but they just leave me cold.

My 2000 WJ Grand Cherokee is my first 4 x 4 & I love it. An ebay special after VT'ing my S-Tyoe Jag the plan was to run it for a year or two. That was 5 years ago.Throws a biggish bill every now & then but generally been very good. And unlike the equivalent LR product no rust!

MIL has a '93 Cherokee. Still runs fine. If I were in the market for a 4x4, I'd probably go for a Jeep, mainly because you get more bang for your buck.

Surely, for the school run, one really needs an X5 though, no?

Currently driving a Renegade rental from Europcar with the 1.6 diesel.

Apart from the very small boot, its a convincing little package.
See them all over recently. Think they look great. Not my thing because too small but look fun.
