I had an S10 (the previous gen - probably same engine). It was fine as I paid US prices for gas and they have a bit of a cult following now. These 2nd gen things are awful though.

Bonus points for finding a shed that that's big enough to be, and would be better utilized as, an actual garden shed.

My tennis coach in Michigan had one, with numberplate BLAZE. It suited him well, as his name was also Blaze. I wish my name was F40.

Fail. No V8 and sold already.

Keep 'em coming - the more left-field the better for sheds IMO.

These are tough little 4x4's and GM sold them by the bucketload.

However it is anything but a "yank tank". It was always sold as a compact SUV and they are dwarfed by modern European 4x4's

These writers won't let facts get in the way of their stupidity, a little predudice to flavour the pasting of old jokes and hackneyed cliches. It's what pistonheads is all about.
In Shed's defence the 'Yank tank' line was an edit. By me.

And I think it stands! Shall we accept the Discovery is a 'British barge' and be done with it? smile

Dan
No... because it was always meant to be a compact SUV wink

It's bigger brother's the Tahoe and Suburban can legitimately be called yank tanks though
How big was a European compact 4x4 in 1999?

Is a 2016 Disco even classed as compact? I would say the Evoque is the compact SUV in their line up - how does it compare to that?

Yank Tank was, is and always will be a catch all term for anything American regardless as to it's size anyway.
Freelander - would be the compact SUV, rather than the Disco.

Prefer the same era Ford Explorer.

That was comfortable and the 4.0 engine was actually quite good fun with a reasonable turn of speed.
Aren't they deathtraps? Something to do with Firestone tyres exploding and losing control as well as the tendency to turn over on mild corners.coincidentally similar age explorers pop up regularly for sotw money.

The price offered on this classified ad is half that of a similar Blazer in the US. Usually it's the other way round!

A good deal on a decent shed, I'd say, if a lot of maintenance and replacements have already been done. The 4WD (instead of the standard 2WD) is a bonus.

The Canyonero comparison doesn't make sense. The Canyonero is huge; this Blazer is on the small side for an SUV -- even a proper SUV in the UK. By making the comparison in this article, the author reminds me of how Americans sometimes lump together English, Irish and Scottish... and end up not understanding the faces that they receive in return. Lazy.

For the first time in shed history something that is the size of (and about as useful as) a shed

The sherpa van was fairly shed-shaped.

I'm all for throwing the net a bit wider and having a few new ideas and marques in SOTW. Absolutely. Quite right. Just as it should be.

But, that's hideous.

As an americaphile when it comes to cars, I almost bought one a while back. They are fully loaded with loads of room and every conceivable extra. Instead I went with Ford's explorer offering.
Much prefer the Ram and Dakota from Dodge, pug ugly but with a big Hemi block up front you're not going to lose many arguments...

A rare feature, worth checking for here, is metal present around the rear turrets/shock mounts.

Normally it's completely gone after 5 years ;0

Think "Discovery Rear Floor" but in the really important bits...

I bought one on the cheap to use as a dog/tip/put crap in car whilst I rebuilt my legacy engine, paid a whole £600 for it, heated seats are ok, everything else is crap, have spent over £500 on getting it fixed now as it packed up just before Xmas, at the moment it is literally a 'shed'!

Excellent article, but how very dare you suggest that CO2 is noxious? I know you didn't mean it, but you came across as a confused tree hugger, and that's simply not on in a car forum.

Consider your ankles firmly bitten.
