RE: Shed of the Week: Chevrolet Blazer
Discussion
I had an S10 (the previous gen - probably same engine). It was fine as I paid US prices for gas and they have a bit of a cult following now. These 2nd gen things are awful though.
Bonus points for finding a shed that that's big enough to be, and would be better utilized as, an actual garden shed.

These are tough little 4x4's and GM sold them by the bucketload.
However it is anything but a "yank tank". It was always sold as a compact SUV and they are dwarfed by modern European 4x4's
Chevrolet Blazer
Length: 181.2 in (4,602 mm)
Width: 67.8 in (1,722 mm)
Land Rover Discovery
Length: 190.5 in (4,838 mm)
Width: 79.6 in (2,022 mm)
These writers won't let facts get in the way of their stupidity, a little predudice to flavour the pasting of old jokes and hackneyed cliches. It's what pistonheads is all about. However it is anything but a "yank tank". It was always sold as a compact SUV and they are dwarfed by modern European 4x4's

And I think it stands! Shall we accept the Discovery is a 'British barge' and be done with it?
Dan
It's bigger brother's the Tahoe and Suburban can legitimately be called yank tanks though
Is a 2016 Disco even classed as compact? I would say the Evoque is the compact SUV in their line up - how does it compare to that?
Yank Tank was, is and always will be a catch all term for anything American regardless as to it's size anyway.

Prefer the same era Ford Explorer.
That was comfortable and the 4.0 engine was actually quite good fun with a reasonable turn of speed.
Aren't they deathtraps? Something to do with Firestone tyres exploding and losing control as well as the tendency to turn over on mild corners.coincidentally similar age explorers pop up regularly for sotw money. That was comfortable and the 4.0 engine was actually quite good fun with a reasonable turn of speed.
The price offered on this classified ad is half that of a similar Blazer in the US. Usually it's the other way round!
A good deal on a decent shed, I'd say, if a lot of maintenance and replacements have already been done. The 4WD (instead of the standard 2WD) is a bonus.
The Canyonero comparison doesn't make sense. The Canyonero is huge; this Blazer is on the small side for an SUV -- even a proper SUV in the UK. By making the comparison in this article, the author reminds me of how Americans sometimes lump together English, Irish and Scottish... and end up not understanding the faces that they receive in return. Lazy.
As an americaphile when it comes to cars, I almost bought one a while back. They are fully loaded with loads of room and every conceivable extra. Instead I went with Ford's explorer offering.
Much prefer the Ram and Dakota from Dodge, pug ugly but with a big Hemi block up front you're not going to lose many arguments...

I bought one on the cheap to use as a dog/tip/put crap in car whilst I rebuilt my legacy engine, paid a whole £600 for it, heated seats are ok, everything else is crap, have spent over £500 on getting it fixed now as it packed up just before Xmas, at the moment it is literally a 'shed'!
