Well if we're posting fast 9000's smile

Last dyno was 450bhp & 425ft/lbs but had a tad more when I scrapped it

Was that the 4.45 box you had fitted? Had one on mine for a few months until it went bang and got stuck in 3rd! Swapped for the 4.05 but no where near as much fun nuts

Is that a Scuderia Shield I spy?

A Mitsubishi Galant VR4 is what you want OP. Can't find any for sale atm after a quick search however. Really like the looks of them, especially in estate form. If I ever find a good one, i'm going to keep it forever!

Prancing Moose.

It's kind of an in-joke in Saab and Volvo circles.

Dai - yes, started out with a standard Aero 3.84 I think? The FM57 101 anyway, and did this to it:

and ended up with a 54 003 which is the 4.05 because it was cheap and available

I can't imagine what the 4.45 would be like - other than just leaving tyres down the road in thick black lines! Especially with 450bhp

I miss my 9000!

ETA more exploded gearbox action
and fitted over a weekend on the end of my drive!

One with a standard exterior is very much so a sleeper imo. But it seems that everyone has a different opinion on the meaning of a sleeper which is fine too.

I don't see how a VR4 is any less of a 'Sleeper' than a 9000 Aero.

Totally agree, and for the same reason I'd call my old 9000 only a kind of sleeper the Legnum is the same. Anyone who knows or cares knows what they are capable of, although not necessarily to the extent of Dai's. The Legnum VR4 is the Mitsubishi equivalent of a Legacy GTB, and by that count not even a halfway. In my opinion of course.

But there will be someone on later to say an RS2 or an Impreza Spec D is a sleeper as well...

Something like this on the other hand
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/v...

At a pinch an E34 Touring with an M3 engine swap - some steel wheels and it's a winner.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E34-fitted-with-M3-3...

How about something a bit more palatial? A genuine Turbo Technics converted E
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-MERCEDES-320-CE-CAB...

Or if you want to go really left field an import Mitsubishi Airtrek which may or may not be hiding a 4g63 somewhere...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MITSUBISHI-AIRTREK-TURBO...

Or an Aristo twin turbo with Lexus GS300 badges, and a box of tissues on the rear shelf.

The VR4 looks the same as the rest of the Galant range, very much a sleeper and rare too.

Toyota Blade Master-G is a proper sleeper as well.

A new one, Skoda Superb 2.0 TSI 280 4WD would surprise a few cars.

I think these cars would be more q cars over a sleeper thou.

There was a very plain looking, and badgeless Toyota Aristo on Ebay a few days ago. Not sure if they all do, but this one did come with a 2JZ lump up front smile.
£6,995 IIRC

One for sale here, 4th down the list(the thumbnail is the only way you can see a picture of it for some reason) which has a couple of extra typo'd digits in the price.

Yep, from the the cars posted so far, nobody has a clue. The closest are the two SAABs, although the black wheels give one away.

And I maintain that mine was only half sleeper! The rusty half at that.

Yep, dents, rust and primer help a great deal with sleeping.

What about the Humble looking Aristo (minus the tints)?

With their 2JZ-GTE lumps as standard, they were kicking out 276bhp @ 333 lb·ft.

Absolutely this.

This is the closest I've ever had, and I'd argue not strictly a sleeper. A good bit over 300whp with a low ratio 'box. Utterly ridiculous once you got going.

Sleeper, sorry, but that's an awful mess, I hope the OP has a bit more cash and class for something like this:

I give you a sleeper -

Note the lack of visible exhausts, sophisticated sleeperism at it's best!

Still clueless. No Mercedes, BMW or Audi will ever be a sleeper and that big lump of a Toyota won't either.

Whay whay why? You can't say that and not offer up some 'sleeper' thought of your own, at least we're trying?

An E500 is not a sleeper, it's a standard car with a big engine that even has a label on the back telling you it has a big engine in it. Most people know that Mercedes, Audi, BMW all produce big engined variants of their range, as such they can't be a sleeper.

A sleeper is a Focus 1.4 or Micra 1.0 that looks totally standard (including exhaust) but has had a Cosworth engine transplant running 350 bhp and is sitting on Ohlin suspension. Modern versions of sleepers for me would be boggo Dacia's, Hyundai's or Kias with big engine transplants.

They're 'luxury' cars, so are expected to go vroom! An old Rover, Honda, Toyota, Kia, Volvo, Ford, that sort of thing.

I gave an example in another of these threads, of a Mk1 RAV4 that had the turbo engine from a GT4 fitted, with over 300bhp. Only given away by the hood scoop for the intercooler, however it could be front mounted if really after the full sleeper look.
