Yep, from the the cars posted so far, nobody has a clue. The closest are the two SAABs, although the black wheels give one away.

Totally agree, and for the same reason I'd call my old 9000 only a kind of sleeper the Legnum is the same. Anyone who knows or cares knows what they are capable of, although not necessarily to the extent of Dai's. The Legnum VR4 is the Mitsubishi equivalent of a Legacy GTB, and by that count not even a halfway. In my opinion of course.

But there will be someone on later to say an RS2 or an Impreza Spec D is a sleeper as well...

Something like this on the other hand
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/v...

At a pinch an E34 Touring with an M3 engine swap - some steel wheels and it's a winner.

How about something a bit more palatial? A genuine Turbo Technics converted E
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1993-MERCEDES-320-CE-CAB...

Or if you want to go really left field an import Mitsubishi Airtrek which may or may not be hiding a 4g63 somewhere...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MITSUBISHI-AIRTREK-TURBO...

Or an Aristo twin turbo with Lexus GS300 badges, and a box of tissues on the rear shelf.
That passat looks immaculate.

Shame about the cage and buckets but move the tank and reinstate the stock interior and then definitely a sleeper.

Not for sale, but I think this is a perfect example of a sleeper. You'll know it when you see it:

Probably going to be told this isn't a sleeper. While it doesn't look st and slow, would anyone expect this to have 350bhp if you took the badges off? The pipes aren't even that shouty. Chuck some mud up the sides too wink

Now now, don't be sore because you bought a E500 instead of the 55 AMG and kept geting your ass handed to you by a crappy old car hehe

Exactly right IMHO. Looks crap/normal/slow/boring but goes like a rocket. Standard looking Mk3 Escort with 500 bhp cosworth running gear etc.

Big Mercs just aren't sleepers. Q car yes, sleeper? No.

Finally! A proper sleeper.

A Saab 9000 Turbo is not a proper sleeper either. It was fast to begin with.

As for saying an E500 Merc is a sleeper....just....no

Has this been on yet? OK, a BMW, but a boggo E34 325i is not super dynamic. The bling wheels on this one give the game away - it should look more ordinary.

I had this....

2.8 VR6 engine, G60 steel rims, flipped rear axle, coilovers, leather VR6 seats, Polo Dash and door cards, induction kit.

Although maybe more "sleeper" when i bought it, on 14 inch polo rims and being used as a works van

No, loads of people don't understand what a sleeper is.
"A sleeper (US English) or Q-car (British English) is a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior.[1][2][3] Sleeper cars are so called because their exterior looks little or no different from a standard or economy-class car." All according to Wikipedia.

What did I recommend? A car that looks no different than the rest of the range. Tell me again how I don't understand what a sleeper is.

My comment wasn't directed at you particularly, but now you bring it up, you cited a VR4 as a sleeper. Wiki all you like, some folk understand what a sleeper is and others don't. I did post another comment earlier but deleted it so as not to contribute to derailing the thread, but have to reply to this nonsense.

Big luxury cars with the standard engine and badging are not sleepers.

In this thread the AX, Astra and the Combo van (when liveried up) are sleepers. The Combo van could do with being raised on it suspension a bit though to complete the effect.
