Best motorway car?

Until you run out of powa and need to wait an hour to charge it
I can honestly say that I've run out of power....err, never. Just like you don't run out of fuel.Neither have I ever had to sit for an hour to charge up, longest I've been is 30 minutes at a Supercharger, enough for a toilet stop, coffee and a relaxed lunch before I got back in, turned AutoPilot on and chilled out for another couple of hours of relaxed, quiet motorway driving. Perfect.

err.....slightly over budget however maybeNeither have I ever had to sit for an hour to charge up, longest I've been is 30 minutes at a Supercharger, enough for a toilet stop, coffee and a relaxed lunch before I got back in, turned AutoPilot on and chilled out for another couple of hours of relaxed, quiet motorway driving. Citroen C6 or VW Phaeton if you want bigger, juicier engines but severe levels of plush.
Volvo S60, new Saab 9-5 or C5 as previously mentioned you want something smaller and cheaper. I wouldn't go for a Saab 9-3 personally, if the ride is important. Yes, it's still a good motorway car, but that's despite the jiggly ride (which goes to show how well engineered the rest of the car was).
I like the C6 much more than everything else, so I'd get that, but I've also heard if they're not maintained correctly, borkage is around the corner, so more it's important to get a good one, as with TVRs, Alfas etc.

Well I have skimmed all 6 pages and have seen a lot of saloons, which make you look like a taxi driver, especially the Mercedes E and S classes.
I'm using a MK5 Golf GTI, which last year covered 90 miles a day and this year 45 miles per day.
It costs approx. £1k per year in service, maintenance, insurance etc and fuel is 38 mpg.
Worth considering in the mix and when you do need to take some back roads, it's good fun!

This is true with all Hydro-Active Citroen's, just never give them to a monkey with a hammer and a dirty spanner.....but do that (people like BL Auto's) and nothing beats them across ALL surfaces. Lots of cars are fine on just motorways I accept but there is a very good reason people say "magic carpet ride".fastgerman said:

But not really a motorway car, which is the whole point of the thread I'm using a MK5 Golf GTI, which last year covered 90 miles a day and this year 45 miles per day.

Smaller hatches like the Golf aren't really built for motorway trawling, hence no suggestion...I'm using a MK5 Golf GTI, which last year covered 90 miles a day and this year 45 miles per day.

Why not? It has 5 doors, big boot, very comfortable, 6 gears so can cruise at 80 while still managing 38 mpg.
What else do you need? It's like a small estate :-)

Have you got double glazing and air suspension? The GTI might be a nice car but it's not a patch on a uber-saloon for motorway cruising...
Yes (C5x7-Exslv and C6) and Air Suspension..HA ! trump that bag-o-air with Hydro-Active+3 I see lots of votes for Volvo S60. I have had 2 and used them for 100 mile per day commutes. The seats become a very important issue sat for 3 to 4 hours per day and they are fantastic. Gets my vote any day. They are cheap to buy and pretty bullet proof.
I now run a Passat and it is good, 55mpg and quiet. But not as comfy as the Volvos.
