Has anyone any experience with an appointment only dealer who sells a lot of a popular model?

Looking at a new car to go alongside my company octavia and i quite like ep3's.

This dealer sells a lot of that particular model, is there anything i should be aware of with this?

http://www.airedalecars.co.uk

I was planning on going next month to look at a few, its a long drive though as i live in birmingham.

Do specialists get only the best examples of the car they specialise in, or do they simply get whatever stock they can get their hands on?

Surely that's just another used car dealer? One who is,
  • Hoping to minimise tyre-kickers, and
  • Sell at higher prices based on use of the words "exclusive", "specialist" etc

You are seriously considering cars from a bradford postcode?

That one isn't what I'd call a specialist. They have a wide selection of fairly normal cars.
I'd call a specialist someone who only dealt in one model or type, air cooled Porsches for example.
That said, if he has what you want only you can decide if it's worth the long trip.

My 2 cents. Depends on the dealer and their approach. Consider My current two cars. First bought from a specialist called performance time up Midlands/Hereford way. Called made appt saw it, slept on it called back agreed price based on inspection, they let the guy do the inpection. First time I drove the car was when I picked it up. Easy great folk to deal with and very professional and open.

Second went looking for another car, called a company called bjc in the south. Wanted a 500 deposit before I could come and see it wouldn't give me full details to do a hpi(I had concerns as it was flagged as exported. ) I walked from that as quite frankly I don't have the time for messing about.

Saw a similar car at hr Owen in pangbourne. Saw it, slept on it. Bought it. First time I drove it was when I paid the balance (point being I've never been a tyre kicker or test pilot) I just want to see the ruddy thing be happy with the colours condition etc.

So appt only. They all vary I would say.

You're not from these parts are you?

It is notorious. And Keighley has a special little rep all of its own.

I wouldnt even think of going anywhere near the place.

edit: In the past I've looked at several cars in the BD area and they have always been heaps. Thats from supposedly 'prestige' dealers of various ethnicities (before anyone comes in with the usual stuff, Ive found white british residents of Bradford just as bad as the asians)

Even if I didn't know the area or it's reputation for shady car sales, it took me all of 2 seconds after clicking on that website to think avoid.

stty templated website, insurance based warranty and pictures on the side of the road.

2 or 3 things there that may warrant a journey, after you have done as much checking as you can talking to them & searching the www otherwise I don't think I'd bother.

Don't really get why those sort of cars need 'By appointment ' tbh.

Maybe I'm an old cynic, but I often wonder if the seller needs to get time off from their day job to show you!!

Keighley, Bradford, Dewsbury etc, do seem to have a higher than average proportion of dodgy independent car dealers - either that or no one bothers to write about all the good experiences they've had in that part of the country.

OP, research the place well before making a long trip there to look at cars.

With leeds being close to bradford is that just as bad? Or is it just bradford generally.

There are a number of dodgy dealers in the Bradford area, one particularly notorious one in keighley.

As I live in West yorkshire I do tend to buy around here but as long as you are sensible and avoid that particular dealer or any of its other incarnations you should be ok

the BD postcode appears to be at the shallow end of the genepool for a lot of ethnicities ....

There are a few specialists that I would use - one or two man bands. The reason for appointments is that they need to make sure they are around and not at auction.
