Exhaust tips...h

Hi, if I wanted to clean my 997.2 exhaust tips is there an easy way for them to be taken off or is it a case of giving them a clean whilst still in situ? Thanks

You can remove them via a clamp that will probably be rusted and a pita to get off, so far easier to clean in situ.

yup, autosol (or similar), a couple of rags, and a shed load of elbow grease biggrin

As an option to just cleaning the tips, I had the ones on my 997S.2 polished to a reflective finish. As the tips are stainless steel, this can be done easily. In my case, I took them to a local metal polishing firm that did the job for about £60 the pair.

The 997.2 tips can normally be removed relatively easily. I've not seen the clamps rust badly (unlike a lot of the other exhaust components!) but you may have to work the tips off the end of the pipes. If they're particularly stubborn, they can be (carefully) drifted-off from behind, using a flat screwdriver against the rings inside the clamps.

Hi Ian, arent they polished as standard? Without going out to have a look...

I used Autosol and gently with wire wool, I know some believe this may impact the surface slightly. Tempted to swap for carbon/black ceramic at some point!

if you can't get the tips off, take it to a local exhaust place. Have them loosen the clamps with air tools or cut the clamps of an replace them. That way when you get home they come off easy as pie for cleaning. Probably won't cost more than £20. Buy some anti size compound and you will never struggle again.

The tips on mine were a brushed finish to begin with. The finish now, post polishing, is perfectly reflective - very similar look to chromed tips (on the odd occasions they're clean)!

Yep, the peril of direct fuel injection, sooty pipes frown
