This. We might think a manual in a 650 is desirable, but there's a reason 99% of new buyers specced the autoWith second-hand prices so low; I'd be sorely tempted to make the 2ish grand jump (plus insurance) to an m6. Sure, you'll struggle to get 24mpg on a run rather than struggling to get 28 on a run; but as long as it's had its SMG box rebuilt reasonably recently...
I mean, come on - it's an m6!

Which is why manuals can often command a premium later on in their life in the case of sportier models...
The guide book has the manual and auto valued at about the same, even though the auto cost £1500 more when new. So residuals have been a bit better, but not so much as to worth more. But the value is what a buyer is willing to pay......junglie said:
I spoke with one of Jay's clan and she was very nice and knowledgeable.
The BMW appeals because it is a manual but cramped if I need to take the family.
The Mercedes has a good spec but I am not sold on the looks.
The Lexus appeals because of the spec and service history but will it be too bland over time?
I've not driven or owned a Lexus. My experience with owning 4 Hondas, 2 cars, 2 bikes, is that they aren't the sort of machines that make you think you have to pull out all of the stops to get your hands on one. But then, 5 years down the line, when nothing has gone wrong with them and they are still doing what they do without fuss or incident, that's when you realise why you went Jap. The BMW appeals because it is a manual but cramped if I need to take the family.

I went for the Lexus option instead of the Mercedes and BMW alternatives recently. The reliability claims from Lexus owners played a big part in the decision. Whilst the quality of the interior might not seem as plush as say an XJ I'm willing to bet that the LS will be hassle free motoring. Ultimately it all depends on your gut feeling when you drive each car. I'm glad I went for a Lexus but the only time I question my decision is when I hear a C63 drive past, I guess an aftermarket exhaust can rectify that.

Two grand jump you say? Be daft not to get a proper engine I mean, come on - it's an m6!
CLS55
Sold my 645 manual about two years ago - nobody would pay a premium for it being manual.
A great car in manual and a better car to drive than my 996 manual (which I still own).
Much better on fuel being manual and bags of torque. Traction control on 6 series really suits the manual can adjust it from full mid to off and with manual mid setting it was great fun to drive.
Had a 630 manual when nearly new and it was disappointing.
Remember the 650 and 645 all suffer from cooling pipe dramas going through the block which can cost £2k plus to fix

An update:
CLK 500 - really wanted it but sold the day I could get back to pick it up. My programme changed and I was away.
E55 AMG - did not think I had the minerals to buy (I'll hand my card in on the way out!). Lots of people saying they had spent £5 - 10k to get issues sorted which would spoil my enjoyment. Would love one on the journey I am doing today and, I guess, still an option if I man up!
Lexus LS460 - just left it. Exactly what you would expect in a Lexus. However, the interior was a bit worn on the arm rest and around the seat belt A pillar. Possibly could be made straight but would irritate me. Lots of moisture on the rear arm rest but could be as a result of the fridge being there. The great service history is why it appeals.
BMW 659 - not seen either of them........ yet!

Personally out of that choice I'd of had the CLS, it had the correct 5.5..
I preferred the black with red manual 650 over the grey one, I do like the idea of a manual one but think the novelty would soon wear off, for me.
Amazing engine though and i think it would be a decent buy either way.

Look at the amount of complaining that few supercars are made with manual boxes today, but the manufacturers make what they can sell, and it's not us that are buying them new is it?
