Weren't motorways originally made for a more direct and faster route to destinations around the country? If so why do people go slower then the permitted speed? I understand vehicles such as lorries and vans may be restricted by law, and of course classics can't always reach 70, but what about normal cars? If the situation permits a driver to safely be able to drive at 70, why wouldn't you?

This is exactly why we need lane 1 and 2 to be for any driver and lane 3 to be turned into a VIP type lane at a charge of something like £10k P/A. This way you just won't have any of the usual trolls going into lane 3. They can do their 65 mph BS stuff in lane 1 and 2.

We really need to start having VIP lanes or something in this country, it's unreasonable that a 1.2L Clio with 60 BHP can be allowed to join a lane which is shared with someone running 5.0L and 450bhp.

Let's just have lane three for sports bikes then. Lane two for people who think their car is fast and lane one for everything else.

I have no issue with twig overtaking at 65 if he wishes, though it does annoy me when people do this for miles on end.

What surprises me though, is the people who do that, then complain about the lunatics tailgating them. If you think these lunatics can't be reasoned with, and will tailgate if you're in the way, why leave yourself open to it? Why not simply perform the overtake as quickly as you legally can?

It's akin to walking in the middle of a firefight and complaining you got shot.

"I'd have an income based access to each lanes whereby the slow lane is for basic rate paters, the middle lane for higher rate and the fast lane exclusively for additional rate. all cars would be colour coded to signify their owners' earning and poor lane discipline would result in fines, highest of all for the lowest paid to hit them where it hurts and ensure they stay in the slow lane. 3 fines and your car would be scrapped.

Exceptions would be people who really have places to go and any Audi driver who's earnings are irrelevant because he is a legend. That would really get this country moving"

How did I do? I 'think' I am really getting this PH thing.

Is this the right moment to point out the spelling inaccuracy in this thread's title or am I jumping the gun?

It would be easier just to limit all cars to 60 MPH that way it doesn't matter which lane your in.

As you did the right thing and did not put a comma before or because there was only one independant clause you crack on son and tell us all about it.

You know, it used to be the case that if you collected a queue of cars behind you, you might have thought, "Gee, I might be going a bit on the slow side - perhaps I should speed up a bit".

But that was many years ago.

Nowadays, people are far more likely to take the attitude of "fk you, this is my speed, so like it or lump it"

Edited by Pete317 on Sunday 14th February 13:55
I agree with all of that. If I'm in L3 and in the act of overtaking and it's clear in front of me, I'll floor the throttle for a second or two to complete the pass more quickly if it looks like I'm holding up someone behind me.

Christ almighty, it's not a hardship - really - just to gas it up to 90-odd for a few seconds is it?
