The best driver in the world must get tailgated too.
Just ignore.
Cleaning windscreen with a generous squirt also helps !

drive a Jazz...are you that tt that always overtakes me when accelerating zone out of a 40 to NSL but then continues to hold me up for several miles because must be in front of the Jazz syndrome?

BTW, classic Pistontt. I have to be places'. laugh
To be fair I do exactly that. Lets be honest here, 90% of the time that jazz/micra/yaris is not going to accelerate from 40, if you get the chance to pass it early on I wholeheartedly recommend taking it.

Here's a spot of recent tailgating karma.
https://youtu.be/W6yl1XQNg-c

The driver of the Polo was interviewed on the radio and said it's happened to him before. These idiots seem to attract each other, like flies to dung.

If you slam your brakes on, they usually get the message and stop tailgating!
Or just pull over, which do you think would be safer?

And then people wonder why there's tail backs on every journey with drivers like you.

I wonder whether some people have the incorrect perception of tailgaiting? Yes there is 3 inches from your bumper being too close. But I was a passenger in a car with a colleague and she complained that the car behind was tailgaiting. I looked in the side mirror which seemed fine and turned around and again the distance seemed fine - a little closer than normal but probably bleeding off speed.

I seem to have passed a lot of minor bumps over the years. It would appear, that on the face of it, they are the result of someone failing to stop in time or there would be no bump (there are no accidents, just someone being selfish). Now whether this is a result of too close or just being asleep, I do not know but observing the traffic jam and the nose to tail crawl, I think that when the gap opens up, people press the peddle a bit then find they are too close and wham, they have stopped again. It happens as well on what would appear to be a free flowing Mway.

I think that many people do not have the ability to comprehend their stopping distance. They are not doing it to prove anything, they just do not know and not thinking. Of course there are the ones that think they can but I think they are a minority.

Often I know I can stop quicker than the fool behind, its why I have a scan ahead for the way out and have used it n the past.

I spend a lot of time on the motorways too, generally the only people I see getting properly tailgated are the ones who won't get out of the way into a clear lane to the left.

Of course it depends what you call tailgating. People do tend to travel closer than they ought in general, but its only a few I think who get silly close.

nterpretation of being tailgated? wobble

The point is you do get tailgated. And you admitted you get tailgated 1% of the time you drive...to me that's quite significant.
You're clearly stupid.
You're clearly angry!! guess I would be too if I had to drive a vauxhall diesel!!
seriously if we all chilled out and drove like we walked in a crowd we would be safer and more relaxed...

This is so obviously bait I'm surprised nobody has called it out yet.

Step 1: Go to forum where people like driving fast (and probably tailgate more than they want to admit)
Step 2: Call people out for one of the more antisocial aspects of driving
Step 3: ??????
Step 4: Profit

We all tailgate people when they are driving slower than we want to. Otherwise, they would have no indication that you want to drive faster. You can flash, but some people find that more offensive than a few seconds of tailgating. You could even go for an undertake if they're travelling below NSL.

ou almost sound like you're trying to justify such tailgating behaviour. There are lots of scenarios where people can't regulate their speed correctly. Or, where they simply wake up when you're overtaking and then adjust their speed to where they want it. Also, I see a lot of tailgating occurring when people won't move over quickly enough - I actually think it is rude to cut in front of other people, so I do tend to wait longer before pulling in, especially if the speed differential isn't great. There is also the factor of waiting your turn...

The majority of people I see getting 'properly tailgated' are done so by extremely impatient drivers.
Thing is, that's not what I said at all is it? It's almost like you're twisting what I posted in order to support your own agenda.

People who get tailgated aren't the ones moving out of the way in good time like you suggest but ones who don't move at all. Which happens an awful lot, especially at the weekends.

This is from my position as a casual observer from lane 1, usually slower than everyone else smile.

That being said, spacing at peak times tends to be of the order of 1 second. I don't like it either but it generally is ok as people tend to be looking 6-10 cars up the road so are anticipating any speed changes.

I witnessed this yesterday on the M20 just after the M26. Clear road, lorries in left lane doing 60ish, me in a van in left lane and then middle to overtake lorries and back to left lane.
Woman in 4x4 with family inside sits in middle lane gets up the side of us at 70 then accelerates to about 80-85 we pull out and she's down to 65 so we move to right lane get up the side of her and she's accelerated again to 80 wish mph whilst we were still in right hand lane doing 70.

This happened about 3 times before we turned off, seriously can no-one keep a regular speed on a clear road? i can appreciate it being a little more difficult in rush hour of busier periods.

If several cars have each crashed into the one in front it's a pretty good indication they didn't have room to stop.

Get out of the overtaking lane then you fanny. I do a good lot of driving and I drive faster than 99% of all road users as I have to be places; the fking bane of a typical day on the road is VERY POOR land discipline and UNDER ADHERENCE to national speed limits.. Always get the bd 99 year old Dorris in her Jazz/Spark doing 19 in a fking 30, on the motorway and some thick tw@ travelling at 65 in the OVERTAKING lane. Get out if the way you fking morons.

ETA - I NEVER get tail gated, does that tell you something??
What lane are we supposed to overtake in?
I drove slower than most motorway user because I really do have to be places so can't afford to lose my licence for exceeding 70. If I'm in the overtaking lane part way through passing a lorry, I'm not going to pull in until I have somewhere to pull in to, so what possible justification is there for tailgating?

Tailgating has three possible results.
A) You'll run into the back of me writing both vehicles off and thereby delaying yourself and more importantly, me.
B) I'll slow down to increase my stopping distance in order to reduce the chance of A.
C) I'll completely ignore you in which case you are risking A and B for no benefit.

Sometimes I think there should be 'National brake test day' when every motorway driver is encouraged to slam on the anchors whenever someone is close behind them. That would educate the loonies as to stopping distance.

Smiler.

No, we don't. The person in front already knows we want to go faster the same way we know they want to go slower, because we caught them up.

Secondly the fact that we want to drive faster than them is our problem not theirs. You don't give orders to other drivers.
