Following on from my thread late last year*, when Amazon were selling the Sennheiser HD 598 new for £75, my HD590's have now died! It appears as though it's the cable that runs from the left hand speaker to the right hand speaker, as I only have sound coming from the left driver. It's a single cable, which is relatively new itself!

Anyway, they've done well over a decade and look a bit tired. I'd like to replace them! However I'm not sure what with? I listen to EDM mostly; Louis Futon, Mord Fustang, Vanic etc ... Does anyone know of some headphones that produce a well-balanced sound for EDM music, without too much bass?

I loved my Sennheisers, so the HD 598 (c.£180) and the HD 650 (c.£240) seem the obvious choices! Any noticeable differences between the two? I guess I really need to spend ten minutes in an audio store and try a few ...

Any help or suggestions are appreciated! smile

Bowers & Wilkins P7 worth a listen - love mine.

Nice balanced sound, just enough bass but not too heavy

Oh and Beyerdynamic DT770 - you'll see them used by session musicians and inside music studios everywhere!

I have the B&W P7's if you can stretch to them and the B&O H6's are very good. There was a guy selling them under £200 for a "Pepsi" edition but they seem to be out at the moment.

Probably over budget but I bought myself a pair of Sennheiser HD630VB just before Christmas - £399

Absolutely awesome and the variable bass allows you to dial in the low end perfectly. I love my dance music and these headphones are just sublime.

DJ headphones maybe? - Sennheiser HD25 Pro II. Very flat response, almost monitor like.

I have these and I absolutely love them - the sound is really impressive. They are pretty tight on the head so you get really good noise isolation but the tradeoff is that they do make my ears a little sore after around 30 mins, so not the most comfortable.

I have the v1. They're about 13 years old now, only needed a new cable (they still sell parts separately for this model). Been kicked around the world in rucksacks and airports, still going strong. Still sound brilliant. I'd go so far as to say nearly indestructible.

You can alleviate the pressure by sweeping one of the cups up.

Although I've prolly done it now!

I have the Beyerdynamic DT770's for my home hi-fi setup and they are comfortable and well balanced. I also have the B&W P5's (pre wireless) and I've not heard better at the price point (I paid £250 but I think the new ones are over £300.) The P7's are also great but I wanted something a bit smaller for running and travelling.

AKG K-702? Reference headphones that can be picked up at ridiculously low prices nowadays. Do note they are not bass-heavy while comparing to e.g. B&W phones.

I've never heard of AKG, but the model you mention receives high praise on Amazon! I think I need to go and try some on to see for myself, although I'd hazard a guess that tracking down some DT770s or a K-702 to demo might be somewhat difficult. Otherwise, I reckon the HD650 or B&W P5 might be worth a look ... I don't think I can stretch to the HD630VB or P7 at the moment, unless I wait!

Sorry my mistake - i meant to recommend the P7s also, not the P5 as i wrote above.

I've had the P3 + P5s but the P7s are way way better imo - although the P5s are not a million miles away - and they have lovely soft leather covered memory foam stuff that is very nice!

John lewis usually have a decent headphone section with the B&W stuff set up you can plug your phone into...

From your previous headphone choices, i'd imagine you'll prefer the P7 over the P5 thought i might be wrong.

Can only go by personal experience but I really like my Sony MDR-1As. Worth a listen. I got the Bluetooth version and they sound great both via BT (especially using the LDAC codec) or wired. The have a v-shaped signature but the bass response is not overblown and can go very low without getting distorted. Very comfy too.

I second/third the DT770s. Really nicely balanced and all-day comfortable – I had to buy some 'phones for our video producer at work and got him a pair of these on comfort alone. Very impressive sound too. I've paired mine with a USB DAC/amp and they sound lovely. The 80 ohm ones are under £100 on Amazon at the moment too. They don't look cool but sound awesome.
